Thread: Danone Oikos Greek Yogurt

Has anyone tried this yet? I just bought a tub of the vanilla flavor and it is identical in taste and texture to Minigo. It comes in a 500g tub, so it might be more economical to fill your own containers to use for school lunches (if you normally buy Minigo).
I bought it for $3.49 and used a 50cent manufacturer coupon. The regular price is around $5, which I think is pricy for yogurt. The thick consistency means that it would be more filling than the regular stuff. I haven't tried the plain, but the vanilla is good. This thread is currently associated with: N/A

High in protein. The President's Choice tub is $3.99 regular price.
Not a lot of flavour choices. But it's brilliant with fresh or canned fruit and a handful of granola.

I've heard that plain Greek yogurt is great to use in dips in place of sour cream. I haven't tried that yet. I'm not a huge yogurt eater, but DH and Mom have tried the one with honey and like it OK. It's not as sweet as the Yoplait, etc. that we normally buy in big tubs.

Greek Yogurt is great stuff, its pretty much just natural yogurt that's been strained, with much of the liquid (and sugars) drained away. Its pricier than regular yogurt because it takes like 2x more milk to produce, but has far more protein & less carbs as a result.
Plain is great for all sorts of things, as people mentioned its a great base for making dip, sauces, etc... or in place of sour cream when serving things like perogies, curries, etc...
The Dannone Oikos yogurts are interesting, because its actually two rather distinct lines. The 0% Organic ones I've seen are actually made for Dannone by Stonyfield, and are noticeably different from the non-organic ones (different mouth feel)

I really enjoy the President's Choice honey greek yogurt! I tried the Danone Oikos and found it to be way to sweet.

i tried this before but unfortunately the store froze the yogurt and it came out kind of watery. it was definitely denser than normal yogurt. i'll try it again when it goes on sale.

I think the PC Greek yogurt is made by Astro.
Both the PC and Astro have 30 per cent calcium. I think the Okiros Greek yogurt has 15 per cent calcium.
The higher amount of calcium was the big marketing feature for Greek yogurt. Yoplait Asana also has 30 per cent calcium and can go on sale for as low as 1.99 at Food Basics. Asana sometime has coupons from gocoupons.ca

It is really thick in texture and quite rich-tasting, not to mention quite a bit more expensive than regular yogurt (unless you can get it on sale). For these reasons, I would stick to normal yogurt for smoothies, but you can always give it a try.

Thanks...this just put me on to a Youtube and Google search frenzy...I love the stuff but don't know anything about making my own yogurt (from scratch, anyway). I vaguely remember an aunt doing it when I was a kid...she was the family hippie, LOL.
Can't wait to try it myself!

I just found the Oikos Greek Yogurt Coupon (50cents off) from Food Basics in Sudbury, but I have not tried the product yet.
