Chives are coming up like gangbusters, I thought for sure they'd die in the pot this past winter but nope. However, the tulips and ............. umm........ other bulbs that I put in another pot last fall are nowhere to be seen. I'm beginning to wonder if I imagined planting them out. Oh well, good thing they were only Dollarama bulbs, I didn't spend a fortune on them.

Fruit trees ( pear & peaches) as well as hydrangea & another plant whose name eludes me ( it is grasslike & shoots up long stalks with a flower at the tip in late April/ May) are budding now.

3rd pic-daffodils in upper left; tulips in foreground are taking off!
The blue tiny bell shaped flowers (4th pic) I called lilac-what are they really called?
Mystery bulb (2nd pic) looks like aloe plant but thinking more iris or gladiolus?
Noticed crocuses were outside! They must have come with the rains or just preceded them. The spider grass was the first green thing by St. Patrick's Day-had thought it was a crocus plant emerging. The nook where the grass is located is not part of a flowerbed but seems to be first place to spring a flower in March.Last edited by Ciel; Sun, Apr 13th, 2014 at 05:34 PM.

Ciel,
The little blue ones that you call lilac are actually called grape hyacinth (muscari). As for your other mystery plant, at first glance I thought it might have been a regular hyacinth but upon closer inspection I don't think it is.. the leaves on yours seem too thick and the green is lighter than a hyacinth. Post another picture when it gets a little bigger.
But then again, it could be a hyacinth.. here's a picture from Google images:

The other thing I wanted to add is it's definitely not a gladiolus or an iris. Glads are not hardy in Ontario (they're a Zone 7), they most definitely would not have survived the winter we had this year and iris shoots look like this:
