A horrible wake up call for my son & family !!!!!!!

A contractor has been excavating the property next to my son's. Once completed, they're going to flip it.
They're putting up a monster home, so it's been quite an ordeal, the noise, the mess, some damage to DS's house, e.g. large gravel being shot to back of property took out their front windows, but this morning takes the cake.

They've excavated right to the edge on the property line, taking out all the roots of the trees along that line. About 5:00 this morning, a massive oak tree came crashing down. It came down just in front of my DS's house. It took out all the power lines, starting a fire in their front yard. The fire dept. has put out the fire, with minimal damage to their house, and hydro is there now. It missed my DIL's mini, but fell across DS's truck, took out both fences, and is across the next door neighbour's driveway.

The only plus, every1's ok, and there's only minimal damage to their house.
Quite the mess. The poor kids.

Jake & I were going there today, to spend the afternoon with them, then out for dinner tonight, but that's all up in the air right now.

What irresponsible contractors, 22Hicks!! I know we're not a litigious people here, but by goodness, I'd sure have a chat with a lawyer re damages both physically to the house AND emotional distress wondering what next?! Worry for a tree or rubble or a window blowing up near the kids! Yep...if that's how they run their business, then they need to be held responsible!!

Gee, hicks - glad they are okay, but they sure don't deserve the hassle of all that. Hoping they get well compensated!

Your plate sure has been full lately, Sweetheart, but thank God everyone is safe, that's the important thing. Stuff is just stuff, and our loved ones are the important ones here.
I hope they look into this with a lawyer at the very least; no one should have to go through that kind of stress!

I hope you have a lovely visit, hug tightly, and thank the heavens above that you're all safe.

Boy, do I know it. It seems if it's not one thing, it's another.
Just the thought of them being hurt was so upsetting, and I'm so very grateful they weren't.

It's yet to be decided if we'll still get together.

oh my goodness hicks! JUST read about what DS went through now.
He sure needs a good lawyer to settle the score. Or maybe his home/auto Insurance is enough to compensate??
Very fortunate there were no physical injuries. I know your mind was racing at the thought and dread of that.

They live in Pickering. Contractors have all the permits, but we'll have to see whether they allowed the excavation to be done right to the property line or not. I thought it had to be @ least 3' away.

As a change of pace....I finished piecing together the quilt top for our niece's little girl, scheduled to arrive in June...Please do not actually magnify to look for errors where my piecing isn't perfect, lol..they should stand on their own.
Now I just have to put 3 bindings around it, sandwich it to the padding and backing, then machine quilt it!
