Such sad news, Valerie Harper has been diagnosed with brain cancer and given 3 months to live. 2 of my favourite shows are Mary Tyler Moore and Rhoda even though I wasn't born when those shows were on I started watching reruns a few years ago and now own all the DVDs. She is a wonderful actress, will be a big loss for the acting community.

Sad news for sure.
She's an amazing woman, and SO funny!
It's cool that some of you have rediscovered these great shows from the past!

I found out about "Rhoda" from a reunion on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Oprah said Mary Tyler Moore and all the characters influenced her as she was growing up. So, I bought the DVDs from Walmart when they were on sale.
Rhoda was a great character/neighbour for MTM.
Very sad to here about Valerie.

Amazing (or crazy?) that she's in rehearsals for Dancing With The Stars.
"When they asked, I thought, 'Why would I say no?' " says Harper. "When life asks you to dance, you just have to dance."
(WOW!)
...ever since June, her doctors have been "ecstatic" with the results of her brain scans, which have begun showing increasingly "less evidence of cancer." Buoyed by the diagnosis and physically feeling better than she has in months, Harper hopes it "might prove inspiring to people to see a 74-year-old woman with terminal cancer dancing."
She's still undergoing treatment.

What a difference a year can make. In an exclusive new interview with Closer Weekly, Valerie has a follow-up announcement to make. And it's better than anyone -- herself especially -- could have imagined.
"My last scans have been positive, and my doctors are very happy,” the 74-year-old says. "[The oncologist] looked at the scans and said, 'Oh my God, Valerie, this is very encouraging!'"
Valerie's regimen -- bi-monthly medical visits and a heavy dose of once-a-week medication -- will continue for the foreseeable future, but the actress says she feels strong, both physically and emotionally. “I’m now the poster child for not believing everything I’m told."
"Right now I am cautiously optimistic about my present condition," Valerie adds, "and I have hope for the future."
Valerie's next TV appearance is on the original Hallmark Channel series Signed, Sealed, Delivered: Sunday at 8P/7C.
Amazingly wonderful!

And she's 77!
Three years later, she is still going strong.
Harper is still battling cancer, but she’s approaching her diagnosis with a positive attitude. She says her husband of more than 30 years, former celebrity personal trainer Tony Cacciotti, has been an important source of strength and support.
“My husband is the best caregiver in the world,” Harper told Closer Weekly in June. “He makes me exercise. So many of us don’t. We think it’s food that matters the most, but exercise and food both matter.”
