Interesting that my wanting them to suffer now was interpreted by you as vigilante justice. Finding them guilty and tossing them in a maximum security prison isn't vigilante justice: but they WILL suffer the consequences there!

No it isn't vglilante justice...It's called the law of the land. Due process and everything. If you want to live in a civilised society, the you have to accept that the laws in place are to protect every-one...even criminals. If we allow ordinary people to subvert the laws simply because they feel aggrieved, then [quote]that leads to choas and the downfall of society. I'm well aware there are idiots enough in prison who want to take out the most norotious prisoner with them simply to prove how "big" they are.

I want them to feel WHAT they did NOW! Hell. I want them to feel ANY sort of empathy towards the people they hurt and killed!
THAT was my reference to justice in the beyond: to FEEL the pain they inflicted! Only I want that for them NOW!

If the perp is one of the dead, then I'm sure he/she is having to do a lot of explaining to their diety, if they are a believer.

If the perp is one of the injured, then it's possible that they are physically suffering NOW. Mentally of course, it's more likely that the perp is happy in his matyrdom.

If the perp was nowhere near and unhurt...then we need to use all your resources to find them and put them though the correct procedures simply to avoid looking like a 3rd country with instant justice often incorrectly dealt out.

However..and I should have made it more clear, I was using your post as a jumping off post as several people had posted after you.. Sorry..

I was talking about people who were talking about storming a hospital and dragging out an injured person and killing him simply

1) On the say-so of one newspaper
2) becuase of his skin colour
3) because he was injured
4) because he was running from a bomb blast
5) because he smelt of gun-power.

Now why does this one man deserve a brutal death at the hands of a lynchmob??? That is the worst type of mob mentality and is nearly as bad as using bombs to kill.

Ah....I understand. No, vigilante justice is certainly an oxymoron...it's not justice, it just satisfies the blood-lust of people. Although truth be told, if someone was proven to have hurt or killed one of my children I'm not sure I could be trusted in a room with them, and a gun in my hand....But I didn't hear anything about storming the hospital! Gads!!

What I did hear, is that the individual who was suspected of having taken part in the bombing has been cleared of those suspicians: someone in the wrong place at the wrong time, was how one reporter characterized it. Imagine if anyone actually did pull him out into a mob just because he happened to be a Saudi. A Saudi woman near the attack has also been questioned and cleared.

Apparently the bombs consisted of TNT placed into pressure cookers, in back-packs, detonated with a timing device.

Boston. F---ing horrible.

I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, "Well, I've had it with humanity."

But I was wrong. I don't know what's going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths.

But here's what I DO know. If it's one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out. (Thanks FAKE Gallery founder and owner Paul Kozlowski for pointing this out to me). This is a giant planet and we're lucky to live on it but there are prices and penalties incurred for the daily miracle of existence. One of them is, every once in awhile, the wiring of a tiny sliver of the species gets snarled and they're pointed towards darkness.

But the vast majority stands against that darkness and, like white blood cells attacking a virus, they dilute and weaken and eventually wash away the evil doers and, more importantly, the damage they wreak. This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We'd have eaten ourselves alive long ago.

So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, "The good outnumber you, and we always will."

It was a board I don't often go to but given how late the convo was taking place I suspect it was little more than people talking big but not actually doing anythink like that. The admins purged the posts very quicklysi I'm not sure what was happening behind the scenes there. But it was a scary few momentsrading that thread.

During the Boston Police Department's final press conference of a confounding and deadly day, someone in the audience asked if Monday's bombing was a "false " attack. We can both explain and answer that question.

I used to live in Boston, and the Marathon route used to go right by my apartment. I didn't live downtown around Boylston Street/Copley Square where this occurred, but still very disturbing and scary all the time. My brother has run several marathons in different cities, this does hit home.

But tragedies seem to have a way of bringing people together. Taking public transit in Boston was totally different than it is here in Halifax; it's quiet. While I might strike up a conversation with the folks on the bus here, have 'bus buddies' that I always see and chat with at the bus stop, in Boston you don't talk to the person sitting next to you (I suspect it's like that in all big cities, but have only ever lived in Boston and Hali). But after this horrific event, people were offering to put total strangers up in their homes, offering all kinds of help. It's nice to see that.
