In the Atlantic Superstore flyer this week there was an add for Herbal Essences Naked Shampoo.
This was the picture that came with it.
I am annoyed with it. I don't think that's appropriate for my grocery store flyer. I know sex sells but I don't want it to sell me groceries.
What do you think?

Yup I am with you on this one, I am so tired of seeing unrealistic images of women, everywhere. The picture would have been just as effective if it would have been from the shoulders up. Natalka did an interesting post in the parenting thread regarding the pressure of girls trying to succumb to the ploys of make up advertising. Well worth the read.

I see nothing wrong with it, the product line is called naked and I think they did the ad tastefully. It could have been much worse.

Zehrs had the same ad for the shampoos and other products. However, Target did their own photo closeup of the product bottles only.
Copy and paste in the flyers-have to wonder how much money the grocery chain received to place the ad in their various brand flyers? It has to be just like shelf fees for eye-level placement of products.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

What I find offensive is all the over-hyped, over-buzzed marketing of all of those companies.
the oldspice ad is particularly ridiculous. In 2020 I had 100 FREE Grocery pickups! Subscribe to PC Optimum Insiders & get 25,000 PC Optimum pts

For me it just isn't this add, it is about how our daughters compare themselves to adds like these and want to mimic and think looking like this is the norm. This one is tame compared to a lot of them and I realize this is the norm for advertising and it will only become more revealing. However I almost lost a daughter to anorexia and I feel adds like this have a lot to do with young girls and body image. I also think there is a lot to be said for a little modesty in our lives.

Yeah, it's the presence of advertizing itself in the flyers that irritates me. P&G is a big advertizer, but see lots of other companies doing it too, with Quaker and its new products having been in the past few weeks, Danone does lots, as do other companies. The flyers in many cases have become a big ad for companies and those often take up more page space than the listing of items that are on sale. And it must be profitable for the companies, because it is becoming more common practice.

... personally this ad doesn't bother me at all. In my opinion if they were using sex to sell, they'd have naked men in it as this product seems to be marketed towards women. I think they're simply saying that the product is 'natural', and the woman is standing in her "natural" state (naked) which I don't equate with sex.

I don't understand why this ad is so bothersome. Is it the word naked paired with the image that is making it seem worse than it is? I really don't get the commotion.

if you hadn't pointed it out i wouldn't have even noticed.. it doesn't bother me, i pay very little attention to advertising anyway... i agree with VeeVee, it was done quite tastefully

Doesn't bother me at all. It's a HAIR ad. They can't really do shoulders up and say "Look at her long beautiful hair we cut out of the picture". And it's called Naked shampoo so they can't really put clothes on her. I think the name is dumb but that's another matter.

I found the things in the guy's hair took more of my attention. Had to look again to see if they were advertising lice treatment or something!
