I love our library Ours has a very large selection of DVDs to borrow plus you can request books, dvds, etc... from any other library within the county. Plus our library lends dvds for free The newer library in the next town over also has board games and puzzles. They also have a lot of kids free kids programs (reading groups, crafts etc...) especially on PD days and school breaks (like March Break).

I am always on the look out for free activities to do with the kids: Free skating, free swimming, free museum passes, community events like parades, easter egg hunts...

    Good morning, everyone.

Got back from vacation yesterday, but didn't have a chance to get on the computer (invited friends over, foolishly put on House of Cards, which turned into a marathon - didn't get to bed til after 4am). Brats got spoiled last night, so they're not too ticked at me for taking them away from my Mom. Just wait til later when they realize they won't be spoiled tonight (diets start at dinner time ), I'll be in the cathouse again.

Have to find a bit of energy to go help at the theatre (not sure what I was thinking having a HoC marathon the night before helping at a matinee - except there were only 2 discs left and I couldn't wait to see how things got resolved). Now I have to wait for the season 3 dvd to go on sale. Hi, my name is andit, & I'm a tv addict.

Will catch up tomorrow. Hope everyone is well.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

So happy things went well for you Andit, here's to a speedy recovery!!

Lizzie I so agree with you on the foreign workers here.I work with an absolutely lovely girl form the Philippines and she just left to go home to get her 5 year old daughter she hasn't seen for a long time to come and live here. I can't imagine the loneliness she has gone through while trying to make a bettr life for her family.

    Good Morning Lizzie,
You are so right about how lucky we are to live in Canada. Over the past few years we have had 3 women from the Philippines living with our family taking care of my Oma as she now needs 24/7 care and cannot be left alone. Right now we currently have 2, one has moved on. But it is quite heartbreaking speaking to them about how they have left their families behind to come here and try to live a better life. As well as the things they miss because they are here and there whole families are back home. A lot of times you hear things about how they wish they could be there but another family will go in their place and hopefully they will get a chance to speak with them and get an update on what is going on, anything from happy occasions to sickness/passing. One fought the clock to try to get home before her mother passed after suffering a stroke. I know I could never leave all my family behind.

Here's a few other factors when leasing which they don't tell you, again not meaning to discourage but provide some tried & true experience

    1. if you are in a accident with the vehicle the lease company is informed which leads to trouble down the road

    2. The dealership will provide you with a lengthy and expensive list of maintenance that needs to be done like clockwork at the noted kilometers and you need to provide proof at the end of your lease that you have met this portion of your agreement if not, you can't walk away

    3. There is a penalty for every kilometer over the allotted lease agreement it's something crazy like $1.00 per kilometer, I can't recall but for us to have walked away from our lease it would have costed us $15k at the end of 5 years on a 5 year old sunbird, absolutely insane

    4. The car must be returned in mint condition, all dings, scratches etc must be fixed and to their approval if not can't walk away

    5. you need to have a down payment

    6. Maintenance needs to be done at the dealership of the type of vehicle for example if Honda must be done at Honda dealer not Joe blows down the road which would charge much less than the dealership.

Great tips everyone, I noticed quite a few people live by some of those tips and/or mentioned them as they say "great minds think alike".

I will admit I really like the Question of the Day, Inquiring Minds Want to know or any questions in general by members of this thread as we can all relate whether it's sharing an experience from the past, living the situation in the present or planning for the future or just learning something new about our SC friends.

There are no mistakes in life unless we don't learn from them

Anyone want to post a question feel free, anything goes

I forgot to mention that the accountant's office called yesterday to say our taxes were done and we need to sign the papers before the efile and that both dh & I are getting refunds .

When I spoke to the lady last week she mentioned a refund for both but wanted me to drop off our medical & dental receipts and I'm glad I did that added $800.00 to my refund.

We're being practical with the refund, replacing the window in our dinning room which looks filmy as the seals our broken, we will order and install ourselves also we will pour the cement floor in the garage which will be much more practical for everyone and then we'll see what's left to work with

Okay back tracking a bit here as I know I missed some questions.

My biggest financial mistake would probably be thinking I can help/fix things for everyone else. As well as getting guilt into things financially. When it comes to myself I have no issues saying no or it needs to wait or I don't need it. But well for many years now I have had more money than my Mom and quite regularly starting in my teenage years I would cover my mom financially when she fell short, weather it was paying house bills, her credit cards bills, loaning money for something she was doing. As well I could very easily get talked into buy things or guilt into buying them when she did not have the money to cover. Issue being I always trust I will get it back and well yeah that does not happen.

    My financial tips:
Think, Think, Think, do you need it don't you need it. As well is it a need or a want. We are all entitled to a few wants financially can be done.

There should be no shame in saying No. Even if you have the money just because you have it does not me you need to spend it (this is my downfall, I always get the you have the money you just don't want to spend it)

Always remember we never know what tomorrow brings. I get made fun of for how big my emergency fund is but I know if any major appliance breaks tomorrow (and they don't always give you warning) no one else has the money to fix/replace them.

Bought a new four slice toaster because I jammed the cancel button on it. Bf bought a new shower curtain because he tore ours this morning.

I bought 6 lbs of margarine to make cookies. Now whipping up 3 dozen oatmeal raisin and 3 dozen oatmeal chocolate chip.

Payday was yesterday so I paid the water bill (guessing as the town still hasn't sent out bills for Feb or March due to the strike) I based my guess off a combo of the last 4 months costs and looking at last year's bill for March. I so don't want to get a 2 or 3 hundred dollar bill or more when it finally end
