Last night we heard on the radio that there was a risk of frost in some areas. We didn't get home until well after dark, so I just hoped for the best. Often times I've covered my garden and everything survived, so my garden is probably fine. I'll update on this later today.
There are enough Kindergarten students at our son's school this year that there are two kindergarten classes. Our son starts school tomorrow and the class list that was sent home in June had 18 students in his class. I discussed recipes to bake with our son and he chose banana oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, but he wants dried cranberries in them too. He wants to pack his own lunch, I told him that he can definitely help. I labeled all of his school supplies yesterday while our twins were napping.
My daycare girl is back today. We will bake the cookies today, which will help to warm up the house.Last edited by Angela273; Tue, Sep 5th, 2017 at 09:49 AM.

Good Morning! What a beautiful day it is here today. I really should have planned to take the day off. Thinking I will for sure in the next few weeks. Then I can walk DS to school and then putter the rest of the day.
My youngest is no longer going to the after school program. He will walk home. This may be handy because I will be prepping dinner the night/on weekend so I can plan it right and have him put the oven on etc.
I have no plan for dinner tonight because we have leftovers etc and I want to clean out the freezer on bottom of fridge in kitchen and use up all the bits of this and that. Good thing my youngest is a good eater since he will be my main guinea pig.
I will hit RCSS sometime today to pick up the 2LB organic strawberries for $3.97. Then clean them for lunches the next few days. That is about all we need. No spending for the rest of the week.
Have a wonderful day everyone!

We share deals, tell how we are saving money, or earning extra money. It is nice to have the added support and encouragement.
For example, I grow a veggie garden in my back yard. I made my second batch of tomato sauce this weekend and put it in the freezer. I also grated and froze zucchini, chopped and froze apples that I picked for free from someone's apple tree, oven baked extra meatballs for the freezer, and made hamburger patties for the freezer too. I also sell my extra garden produce on a local garage sale Facebook page, I've earned $100 so far this summer from my garden produce.Help me out with Swagbucks and we can both earn gift cards and PayPal money

Maybe you will swing by the Outlet Collection at Niagara and check out Chico's and White House Black Market outlet stores? Tell me if you see any good clothing deal prices? Or walk into Bass Pro and admire the cottage/outdoor atmosphere (I've been in the Vaughan Mills location but not the Niagara one yet). Canada One Outlets (Body Shop outlet is the only location I know of )on Lundy's Lane is worth an hour or so of your time. There's a 50s style burger diner joint farther up Lundy's Lane if you feel like having that experience. Flying Saucer or similar name.
If you are at the Shaw Festival, windowshop at the local stores. Might be pricey but I heard that some stores have good clothing and footwear. The Niagara Apothecary, if there's a volunteer pharmacist on duty, could be fun to check out.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

Deals we use to save money on groceries or services, DIY stuff to save money or to make money, scratch cooking. swapping daily events and just plain catching up. Sometimes I find some fun tips in magazines I read. Other members share personal experiences with canning, raising or growing food, turning something into another things (aka recycling or upcycling) to get more use out of it and also exchanging things with others via online pages or community residents.

Still sniffling but drier at the same time. Stepped out to stock up on some $1 Clover Leaf tuna at Walmart and to use a $2 off coupon wub 1 Tostitos product with 1 Pepsi product. Noticed sign that new MMFoodMarket is coming to the SmartCentre-hope this one will last longer than the previous franchise in the grocery plaza.
Noticed some containers on my walk so will pop out to get them while the local high school kids are still in class and avoid the buses on the main road later. Sky seems to suggest rain for the second time today.
Last night rains were hard. Many small branches to pick up this morning. Saw that some other properties lost tree limbs-one property had a forestry crew on site yesterday to cut down a tree.
@Natalka -what an adorable image you posted for Tuesday! Hugs for you! Hope you feel stronger today.
@Angela273 -marvellous picnic idea for your special day yesterday! Belated anniversary wishes for you and DH!2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

@avoncallingu -Granger was on the August thread about two weeks ago. I recall that she is trying to balance social media time with life and she enjoyed a fast from media but missed SCers just the same.

I watch it on the news and can certainly sympathize. We have been under a fire ban most of the summer due to the drought. There are forest fires in all ocer the place and parts of SK are under air quality advisories. If I didn't water my garden daily it would have died a long time ago.

I am new posting here on Smart Canucks, I was trolling for some time and decided I need some people to whip me into shape. I am good at budgeting, just decided to make a tighter budget to pay down the mortgage faster.
We grew tomatoes and swiss chard in planter boxes and got a CSA box for only 25$ a week that supplied most of our veggie needs.
Additionally, a few weeks ago I started a stockpile of pantry and toiletries so I am hoping to have the done when the CSA runs out mid October. I moved away from paper towels and bought cotton cloth napkins for dinner.
Just looking for some inspiration and encourage to keep at it.

@blovely -welcome to thread and forum! How do you like the variety and quality of produce in your CSA box?
Afternoon walk-along with the rain, there was some treasure: 3 refundable cans, a loonie, a quarter and a dime were found. Bought a Toronto newspaper on the way home after quality time at the library. Mom's shepherd's pie was ready (oversalted so I had to drink water) when I got home. I offered to wash the dishes and gave her magazines to read. Just finished reading the paper and will post a car contest offered by a casino (I know there are SCers wanting a new car).
Such a sunny suppertime! Almost feel compelled to do a walk. The fresh air seems to minimize my reach for tissues.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

@Ciel . I love the variety and it propelled us to eat healthier and try different dishes. We are currently looking at growing micro greens over the winter if within the next 2 months I find the money in our budget for a grow light/ stand.
