And .. your posting at 6:51 am Chives. Most mods are still sleeping, even if there were more mods chances are the spam will be there until later. Your having unrealistic expectations from us. We can't restrict newbies because then the good ones get shunned with the spammers.

Were doing the best we can, but your also posting these things at 3 am and 6 am, which is why they are not spammed yet.

I'm not sure if it's possible for this site, but for some forums I visit that has an international community, they pick moderators in different time zones so they can have someone monitoring the forums almost all the time.

Yes but at 6am, with a Canadian site, we are looking at having mods between 3am-7am, I dunno about our mods but I am still sleeping or at least not on SC at those times.

I think the mods are doing a good job, it's the spammers that need to get a life. I sometimes wonder about people that sign up and make a few posts asking simple questions, usually with really bad grammar...are they in fact spammers in disguise?

I read another forum that requires mod approval for links and such, it is so frustrating for the members to wait for their post to be approved, so I don't think that is the route either. As a community, we should report as many spam posts as possible, and they will get deleted eventually.

i report as many spam threads as i can, but sometimes with multiple threads, i find it difficult because of the 40 second wait between reports.. i usually give up after 2 or 3 because it's irritating to wait, otherwise i'd be all over them like a fat boy on a snickers bar.. if there are several threads by the same user then i will include in my report that there are a few threads, but that's not always the case.. crap did that even make sense?

That's nearly 100 new members in little over 12 hours. if each of those becomes an active member and if all new members have a moderated post limit of 10 before being allowed to post freely, then the poor mods will be reading and manually accepting ITRO 1,000 posts as well as all their other duties.

That's like reading a 60+ page thread every day.

I feel for the mods. . been a mod myself on 2 freebie forums years ago and it was hard at times. Some people expected wonder women and seemed to forget that we had lives beside the forum.

FYI, You don't have to report every post a particular spammer posts. Especially a spammer who has had their overdose of caffeine. Once mods get an alert on just one of a spammer's posts, the rest is two clicks from g-o-n-e. So don't wear yourself out reporting 50 posts of just one spammer, just one is fine.
