Thread: July 2024 Frugal Chatter

I miss the deals of Ontario but with a bit of patience I can still be frugal here. Used 60.00 of Air Miles for gas, 80.00 of PCO and 50.00 of Triangle today. Then I made sure to check all the apps and I was able to earn ably 50 miles with the receipts. Also stopped at Walmart for the cheap blueberries, they are 1.94 here so I picked up for my brother as well. Our local Walmart does not have groceries but we had to go to Home Depot so took advantage of being “in town”. Home Depot had all the shrubs and trees on for 50% off. I bought a hydrangea tree, 3 hydrangeas, 2 blueberries bushes that are already producing, a clematis, 2 smoke bushes and an about 8 veggies for just over $200.00. The tree alone retails for $100.00. Needless to say I then spent the rest of the day planting.

Now I know where those totes came from! Bro has tended to park them in the path of our basement cookware rack, an issue for Mom. I genuinely worry he will cause a fall or something for Mom because he is not thinking senior safety and keeping floors clear of his stuff.
Humidity is back. I made a point to step outside a few times as it was fresher there than indoors during afternoon. Blew some bubbles. Had not intended to spend some online cash but found out I could get a free trial of Amazon Prime when I placed a small order to help fulfill a mutual aid request. The trial saved me $$ in shipping otherwise; then I saw the on the go adaptor for the cellphone was 5% off and I had enough money for it. Don't know how it is possible to get second free trial month (the wish list has mention of free shipping on first order so that must have caused the trial prompt). as the other trial month was during late winter 2024 about 1 year after my prior Prime membership for 2-3months. Looked at my Canadian Tire Triangle offers and not much related to items I have on my wishlist.
Really enjoyed the parmesan garlic Triscuit crackers from Friday's shop. Noticed that Microsoft Edge browser (blue screen of death due to Crowdstrike update)was somewhat sluggish on two wifi spots I logged onto that evening. Btw, a Houston tv station disproved someone's claim on X that he was responsible for the update issue-he does parodies of news and resides in Belgium. Also saw that the Sphere LasVegas blue screen of death photo was not real after all.
The public library has resumed email reminders about items due back as I received one this weekend. Took out several summer issue magazines. Passed the Madame Web movie on to friend who wanted to see it ; as the holds system is mostly working, chances are if I had the disc checked in someone else probably would have the copy. Movie was ok but more nostalgia for props and cars and NY tv shows. I can see why movie did not make bank; it might have been better as an indie film without the bombastic expectations of action Marvel film. Dakota Johnston is cool in her leather jacket though and her posture is amazing.
The expected rain has not fallen today but the drip downstairs resumed two hours ago. Cannot win this waterworks scenario.

DH tried out his new portable steam sauna last night and he loved it! Could only last 13 minutes inside as this is his first time in a while to go into any sauna.
Bought it for him on Amazon prime day and saved some $$. ( $72.00 to be exact ) The only hilarious thing was that camping style chair was so very small! It was sized for a toddler, so we gifted it to our neighbour's wee son. We had a more suitable folding chair to use.

Good Morning Everyone,
Was up early this morning woke up 2 minutes before my 5 am alarm and decided to start my day. There was a cool breeze when I woke up so I opened up the windows to air out the house. Don't get me wrong I love my AC but I find the house gets stuffy.
Knocking out the work things, it feels good. I took a bit of time after dinner last night to write a to-do list for the week for work. I know it will change but I find I need that to-do list to keep myself focus because I constantly get pulled in different directions all day and forget what I am doing. It is truly a struggle some days, I have literally sat here looking at my screen going what was I doing????
I am doing laundry today, the last load is in the dryer and there is a lot on the rack air drying, we use a mixture of drying and air drying. Being 5'10" my pants do not see the inside of a dryer.
Yesterday I got some prep done but I was very unfocused, my mind was on other things but I got the following done:
Banana Muffins - Weren't originally part of the plan but found out my bananas need to be used up or tossed so Muffins they became.
Cooked Half a pack of Bacon - Have been buying the no name on sale but oh my gosh the Kirkland bacon is so much better, I grabbed a 4 pack which we will cut in half so we will get 8 weeks of bacon. For just us half a pack is enough.
Wash all the produce - Small week only had cucumbers, celery and zucchini
Prepped Veggies - Cucumbers, Celery, Carrots & peppers for snack and salads.
Mom did the chicken it has all been prepped and is in the freezer, oh how I love having our meat pre-prepped total game changer when it comes to dinner time.
Last night I made Baked Feta Chicken over Rice with Broccoli.
Tonight I am not sure thinking either Club House (since I cooked the bacon) or Steak Sandwiches, on the side I am thinking Homemade Potato Wedges and a side Salad. I have romaine but I also grabbed a Dill Pickle Salad kit (2-pack) from Costco as they were on sale.
Goal for this week, make sure I spend 15 minutes a day cleaning something, anything.

Morning sheets are on the line incase we get rain this afternoon .
Hubby was up at 6.30 digging the ant hill out of our front yard (he youtubed it the only way to get rid of it then buy a roll of sod and some dirt and fix it up later)each year it seems to be higher.
So i did some weeding this morning while it was cool out at 7.30 a.m
Walkonby -hope your hubby enjoys his sauna.

WOB-that is funny. I thought all you had to do was step outside in the summer for a sauna in Toronto! My husband ordered a carpet cleaner on Amazon Prime days and has been busily cleaning every since. My goal is to stay out of his way!

I was at RCSS and wanted to catch a drink of water and cool off. I went to their outside garden hose and turned it on and nearly scalded myself! The water had been heating all day in the sun. Man, was it hot. I had to run it quite awhile to clear the warm before I could even soak my hair with it. What a surprise.
My food may not befit a king, but I eat like a horse.

Good job at getting muffins made and produced washed @SallyA shley
I went to make Bran muffins before my parents visit yesterday and realized that my Bran had expired a long while back. I ended up making maple walnut muffins...they were good but ironically, I would've preferred the healthier bran muffins30

Good scores at Home Depot @
lilo0003
Sounds like you'll be growing most of your produce for the summer. That's amazing that the blueberry bush is already yielding. Hope you find some good local stores for your regular groceries.

lol!! @lizzie bargain , I love when our spouses find an item and use it relentlessly like your DH is doing. Clear a path! Here he comes again.
One would think with these heat waves that my DH would have wanted something else but his fascination with sitting in a steam sauna was
too much for me to ignore. Plus...I really bought this as an Anniversary gift for him. The traditional gift for 45 years together is sapphire but
that ain't happening. So we're doing a Jack Astor's steak dinner on July 29th which we'll both enjoy.

2x discounted pints (300g) of blueberries at Walmart for $0.92 each
My week of discovery continues. Found another 2x bags of dry dog food along with a can of dog food and some scattered dog treats. One bag appeared to have a hole gnawed in it, but the food did not appear to be scattered or eaten. Gave it to the same neighbour who accepted the other bag. At $20+/bag, probably saved him $60 or more.My food may not befit a king, but I eat like a horse.
