I think many parents (not all but many) simply don't know better. It's hard to tell them what they're doing can be harmful to their children without insulting them. I was raised on either toast or Oreos and chocolate chip cookies with a cup of hot coffee for breakfast. Pork lard (or Crisco shortening because my mother couldn't read the labels) smeared on bread and sprinkled with salt for lunch. Supper almost always consisted of meat and boiled potatoes and bedtime snack was often a shared chocolate bar with my brother and a glass of milk. I don't ever remember drinking real fruit juice, it was Tang and pop for us. Was my mother a bad mother? No, not because of the diet we were fed anyways. I believe she honestly didn't know better. It's too bad that teachers or others close to our family didn't mention anything. At least nowadays, good nutrition is taught early in schools.

Anyone knowingly harming their child by providing caffeine....smoking in the house or around them...killing their child with food etc should be put into parenting classes and if it didnt stop....take more measures..thats knowingly harming your own flesh and blood..disgusting

When it comes to parenting in general, no two families will ever be alike, and I don't think it is even remotely fair to be pointing fingers at one family/parent and telling them they are aweful people and you know better so they should do exactly as you do. Many parents make the choices they do by mimicing the behaviour of those around them (or their own parents) and by saying they are terrible disgusting people is very, very wrong. You have no idea what their situation is or why they made the choices they have, and quite frankly, its none of your business either. So please, before you verbally attack someone on the internet and not to their face (unlike the woman who worked(s) at Timmies who had the balls to say it to the mother herself and deal with the repercussions of her actions), then you have no business judging them or anyone else.

I was a regular ice cap drinker (until it no longer agreed with me) and had no issues allowing my 6 yr old sips of it. My 6 yr old also is allowed pop while camping (a special treat). BOTH my children are allowed to eat KD, boxed cereal, rice krispy squares, processed snacks for school, etc and I don't believe there is anything wrong with this. They are both VERY fit children who have no health concerns of any kind, are active, intelligent, and kind. To condemn me and everyone else I know and don't know, for not following your ideals and child rearing protocol is rediculous. Get off your high horse, raise YOUR chlildren the way you feel is best and don't be so concerned about the "improper" eating habits in other peoples homes. The next time you have the balls (overies) to ridicule and judge someone, have the curtesy to do it to their face instead of on the internet. At least then if they have something to say to defend their actions, you can actually HEAR what they have to say....you may be fired from your job (if you do it at work), punched, or be torn a new ***hole for not minding your own business, but at least you'll learn to not judge other people solely based on your own ideals.

Can't always say that children having lots of dental work is the result of poor nutrition. Decay is caused by a certain bacteria that is passed on from Mother or childcare giver. Some strains are more virulent and no matter how well parents look after their child's teeth, they may still end up with extensive decay. Baby teeth also have very deep grooves, which make cleaning extremely difficult. On the other hand some children have sugar coming out of their ears and get no decay.

    Nainai0585,
I absolutely 150% agree with what you just said! darn computer!! gives power to some people that would normally never have the balls to look at you in between the 2 eyes and tell you what they really think. I'm way far from being a perfect parent... i do try to do my best but, you know, at times my best falls short. It seems easy to say..oh well i have kids and i will do everything that is only good for my child all the time..18 years and counting! no problem, i can do this 4ever..LOL.... p.l.e.a.s.e...
I judged my mom growing-up, telling her i would never do this or do that when i had kids, but holly molly did i apologized to her later on! wow! having kids is far from what i thought it would be. So, no i'm not perfect, i do things i probably shouldnt do, say things i probably shouldnt say.. but to have someone tell me up to my face that i'm a bad mother or should lose my kids because i'm not perfect..better have a good pair of legs to run like lightning speed.
So, if i scale myself, i'd say that i'm 80% a good parent and fall short for 20%... what can i say.. i couldnt write 100% because i'm only human.

Hate is such a strong word to use. It's really no different then someone letting their kid drink a coke. While I dont let my kids drink caffienated beverages of any kind I'm not going to hate or want to smack someone if they allow their kids to drink it.

    Oh my jeez.

First caffine isn't a drug. Atleast last time I checked.

This thread really made me laugh to be honest. Who are we to be nagging on other peoples parenting skills. Just because one person might think its wrong or bad doesn't mean it necessarily is. I'm not saying I would ever give an ice cap to a child of mine but I think its important for people to realize that I am sure you may think ice caps for kids are wrong but if we were to look threw your pantry maybe that parent giving their child an ice cap would think YOU are the bad parent for feeding you kids a specified product.

While I don't agree with giving children certain things I definitely don't think its anybodys right to walk up to a stranger and start calling them a bad parent or nagging them on their parenting choices. People need to keep to themselves and mind their own business IMO.

None the less, all the habits people are mentioning are bad; boxed foods, processed foods, high sugar drinks, sugary cereals, and soda, smoking around kids and swearing.... the fact of the matter is, none of it is healthy and as parents its our responsibility to make sure our kids stay away from it all to the best of our ability.

For those who do buy their kids Iced Caps, why not try the smoothies?? They have real fruit and yogurt and no caffeine.
A can of pepsi max has 69mg, im looking at the can right now.

In a large fruit smoothie without yogurt there is just under 62 grams of carbs and 56 g of that is sugar. That has more sugar and carbs then a regular pop.

Maybe before you talk about hating people and slapping people you think of the people on the forum you may be insulting. I know your not perfect. Not even close.

No child under 13 should ever have either!!!

I may not be perfect... but I'm pretty darn close. Furthermore, your comparing apples and oranges!! I'm talking about caffeine and your talking about carbs and sugar. I don't think children should drink pop OR iced caps for that matter. Sugar is found in almost everything, so its impossible to shelter your kids from sugar...... but caffeine is something they don't need and wouldnt be in their diet at all unless the parent chooses to include it in it!

You may think your pretty close to perfect, but others may not, can I start a thread in the rant section about your parenting skills and how I think they are wrong?

I'm not trying to cause conflict here I just think its ridiculous how people are so high and mighty and stuck up, thinking they are almost perfect when thats their opinion of themselves. Judging others on their choices for their children, definitely doesn't seem like something an "pretty darn close" to perfect person would do...just saying
