I do. My sister drives me bonkers with her cat stories, she's a cat person.

I'm a dog person, I have Gaius, my big boy. He's a good boy, yes he is!!

So what was the universe thinking? December 15th, early morning and I had the kitchen window open even though it was cold out. I like fresh air. Frightened, frantic tiny meows. I look out and there's two tiny kittens trying to shelter themselves from the snow next to our step. Far too small to be on their own.

    Hmmmph.

So I get a couple of kids and we go and pick them up. We head to the several of the neighbors asking if they're theirs, nope. Not likely anyway, if someone owned them they wouldn't have been outside. We kept checking and put ads up but nobody claimed them. They easily fit in the palm of my hand, they were maybe two weeks old. Just old enough to wander away and they did. Mom was likely a stray.

My wife hates cats even more than I do. They sleep with her now when she snoozes downstairs, and she pats them with love in her eyes until she sees me looking at her with a big smile. Caught her loving them!

They are no longer the kittens, they're Furball and Niko, Niko is the boy. Kids named them. And Gaius has learned they're not food. I'm not kidding there, that was a real concern and we had to be very careful introducing them to him. But it is the cutest thing to see a kitten pawing at his face on its back while he's stoically taking the beating. He's a good boy, yes he is! And to see a kitten curl up between his paws for a nap? Priceless.

And the kittens are flying all over the house right now, apparently some sort of early morning gladiator games. Cutest thing ever.

Did I mention I hate cats? I guess that's not true anymore,

I'm with you Dave, I'm a dog person too, but I don't mind cats. I love all animals, but given the choice, I'd choose a dog. But you see, your kitties are special, they CHOSE you. That makes them special kitties, and of coarse, your hard core exterior will crack when a bundle of fur picks your family. Congrats and thanks for putting a smile on my face this morning. AND.....cats are smart, they have a way of finding the easy way to do everything...

We all need a little sunshine every now and then

Aw, so very kind of you to give them a home, especially such wee ones who needed special care!

My husband was definitely NOT a cat person (still says he isn't...) - and I just happened to not have cats at the time we were dating, then got married.
However, on our first anniversary he brought me home two little kittens - because he knew of my love for cats, and that I missed having them.
Over the years, he keeps protesting that he does not like cats, yet he pets and plays with them, they snuggle to him, and he DOES love them!

Have fun with the kittens - I miss having little ones! Mind you, our youngest is just over a year old and still full of fun and frolic, and she gets her six year old mom running through the house, too!

Dave, would appreciate pics if you can do it - especially with the dog!

Oh bwahahaha!!! I KNEW what you really meant was you LOVE these cats. Hollyq is right they chose you, so whatca gonna do 'bout that? Love 'em..that is all you can do.

I am so happy you posted this thread because now I can hijack it with reruns pics of Hamlet ( who was saved from a dumpster!!)
I do know what you mean about the caution with the dog vs cat thing. My 2 shih tzu's have been awesome, however Hamlet hisses at them every time he even sees them across the room. Eventually we will get there, right now the focus is on watching Claudius doesn't maul him too much, he is the same species as Hamlet, but has about 12 lbs or so on him.

First pic is the day after DH brought him home being seen at the vets office. DD's cell phone is next to him so I would remember his size. Then I cleaned him up and did what every cat owner does...take silly pics of them either wearing clothes or pretending to be celebrating some event ( in this case Christmas)

Thanks for posting Dave, Happy New Year you big old softy!!

Yup. I'll do it. Gotta wait for the kids to be awake, they've got the tablets.

I hate cats too. On a side note, my in-laws' dog just had 10 puppies. They say there's one with our name on it, and whenever we go there they show my daughter's the puppies. They haven't convinced me yet. I will stay strong!
It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness.

I don't really have a problem with cats or dogs. I just find that having a dog doesn't fit into my life at the moment. I think it's cruel to have a dog in an apartment where they can't run around much. Cats are often a good choice for people that aren't home as much and live in apartments because they have a litterbox and don't need to be outside.

DaveP, I read your title and came ready to do battle with you. :succubus1:
    LOL.

I don't think that they arrived on your step by accident. I think they chose your house. You just didn't know it at the time.

We don't have cats. We do however, have a neighbour's cat that guards our back deck -- all seasons. Any robbers must think twice before approaching our back deck. That's where the neighbour's cat sleeps -- on duty. He leaves at 4 PM. We, I guess we are the afternoon shift. LOL.

Thanks for sharing your story Dave. I loved the way it unfolded. I love both cats and dogs, but perfer dogs. Don't have any at the moment after losing my beloved dog a year ago. Animals show you love even when you don't deserve it. Enjoyed the story so much.

Lol, stay strong in your " hate" of cats. DH is allergic but I love cats. But I love him more so we have a dog.
    Love that they adopted you.
