I am in awe of some of you and need to learn!
Summer time when the farmers markets are on the weekly bill for my husband and I is about $70 including fruit/veg that i freeze for the stock pile.
But in the winter because of the cost of produce I'm averaging $90-$110 a week

I'd been asking myself lately if we are spending too much for groceries or we just on average??? There are two adults and two preschooler and a 5 months old and we spend $350-400 monthly excluding diaper, after reading this thread I guess we are just same as everybody else. My children loves dairy and knowing the benefits they get from it I always make sure they have cheese or yogurt always available. Stocking up when on sale with coupons of course. I do a lot of cooking in the house no more prepared meals since on mat leave, trying to save as much as I could so I extend few more months before going back to work.
We only buy fruits and veggies on sale, I tried to look for cheap meats at Freshco they have those 50% off and boil them use them for soup and sometimes for stir frying. I used Tofu as a meat extender too and there are lot of ways to cook them, my family just love them.
Will keep checking this thread to get more ideas from you folks to keep me on budget.

We are 2 adults, a 3 year old, a 2 year old and a 9 month old...I set aside $100 a week for groceries. That includes everything EXCEPT diapers.
Some weeks I spend less and those weeks I bank that money and use for when weeks are more.
Regardless of whether a sale is fabolous or not I never spend more than what I allot, there`s always going to be a great sale out there!

Total grocery (only food/beverages) for February is $298.26...very happy with this. This is for five - all teenagers/adults. I used up quite a lot of my stock in the freezers to keep the totals down. This translates into $60 per month per person or $2.15 per person/per day. It really is amazing what one can do to keep the totals down.

Finally did February totals and it came to $79.01 this includes a LOT of wet cat food. Unfortunately my giftcard stash has pretty much run out and it will be very obvious at the end of March once I do the totals for grocery.

I spend about$250 for one person per month. (I live in Southern Ontario if that helps) I make about 90% of my meals from scratch and eat mostly whole foods, a huge portion of that being veggies and fruits. I also buy a lot of slightly more expensive items like coconut oil instead of butter, hemp seeds, organic items, etc.. I am a bit of a new found health nut. I rarely eat out; eat no convenience or fast foods and very little processed foods.
About every 3 months I spend an extra $75 or so, on some longer term items. This budget also includes all my toiletries, small household consumables and cleaning supplies. I try to shop sales, use coupons and save where I can but most of the food I eat there just aren’t coupons for.
6 months ago, I ate completely differently and easily spend double that on groceries PLUS I ate out all the time for an additional expense. Not only have I saved a huge amount of money, I’m losing weight like crazy and I am so much healthier now. I think anyone can eat healthier for cheaper with a little practice and if you are willing to plan ahead and cook from scratch. My goal is to eventually get my groceries to around $200 a month.

Totally agree!!! We eat very healthy and average around $300 month and we are stocked up, freezer bursting with meat etc. We make most things from scratch, eat tons of veggies and rarely eat out. It cost more money to eat junk in my opinion.

I was shocked when I did the math for my old unhealthy diet and the new healthy one. I always assumed that healthy eating would cost so much more. Ironically even now after only shopping like this for a few months, I already can appreciate that with a bit more practice I will save more

Our freezer is jam packed (plus stuff stored in Grandma's freezer) I am really good at shopping the sales and as my boys start eating more now I realize that I need bigger portions for them too so with needing more I still seem to do pretty good. Plan Plan Plan is my key. And lots of sides and veggies to fill them up. We don't need much for the next 2 weeks but fresh fruit and veggies and will plan my meal using stuff we have.

I have a family of 8 and spend close to 2000 a month.. I really have tried to cut the spending but it's impossible even with couponing. As we are hungarian and eat a very different lifestyle.. it makes me upset that we have to spend this much and there is no junk food or frozen pizza involved in this just meat meat a few fruits (no salads are made here) cream cheese bread! not toast bread but hungarian bread, sliced meat, cheese.. its kind of insane
