Is anyone changing up their game or starting some new routines or goals for September???? Once the boys are back in school I will start my baking again, using my crockpot for spaghettis, chilis etc. I plan to can apples come the 2nd week of September as the apples that I will be foragin (along the sides of the road) are still not quite ready. Here is a tip to know if an apple is ripe and ready to eat, cut the apple so that the seeds are exposed if they are a dark brown they are ready if not....wait a week or so and check again. Anyone else can apples? It's such an easy and cheap thing to can (just hot water bath). You make an apple syrup cut your apples, peel and core and put in bottles - mason jars) put in hot water bath and voila. I am challenging everyone for the month of September to try something new (weekly or once a month - whatever everyone is comfortable with), something that you have been putting off/trying. Please post if you wish to accept the challenge and what your goal/challenge will be. It could be starting to bake like Frugalbigmama, or a trying a new recipe, talking your freezer (clean-out), learning to crochet, start your Christmas shopping, having your meals made ahead of time, etc....ANYTHING GOES!!!!

I accept (lol) week 1 - Sept. 1 - 7th - "baking up a storm" for lunches, snacks and extras into freezer, week 2 - September 8th/Septmber 15th - canning apples, Sept. 16/21st - strip/remove paint from ds#2's dresser and put mineral spirits on. / Sept. 22nd - 30th - relearn to crochet

i would like to work on my basement and get the xmas stuff out and reorganized.. donate what i don't want.. reorganize. so come Nov 15. i can have the house done in one day. not 2 weeks..
also i want to start 'baking' again.. i have a huge list off pinterest im going to be working on for christmas gifts.. i did have a whole batch done.. they eventually disappeared.. frozen or not.. *sigh*

this year will be the first year my kids are in a different school. (college) and together.. so it makes my shopping options a little easier..
as well i wasn't able to get any of my christmas stuff out.. really bummed me out..
also once the kids are gone.. i'd like to get my stair case rails repainted.. already have the paint. just need the time..
when it gets colder.. then i start 'nesting' around the house. cleaning up corners.. reorganizing.. putting summer stuff away..
anyway.. thats my plan.

i'd love to. as long as dh is on board. its all his tool stuff thats in front of it. its all under the stair case.. i started with about 10 or so LARGE rubbermaid bins.. i think i have like 5 now.. can't remember for sure.. i know we have like 4-5 trees. and decorations to fill them all. even a white one.. but this year, im going back to green.. it would be nice to have it all done next month.. then i can have the basement done and decorated for xmas too.. yeehaw!

My EI ran out on the weekend. I will be heading back to work as a substitute teacher in September. Won't get paid until mid-October, so it'll suck not having an income (even though dh will still be working). Our wedding anniversary is Sept 4th and LO turns 1yr old on Sept 9th.

I am planning on baking for all of the staff members for 5 different schools this week (150ppl) in order to help drum up some work. I will be delivering everything with LO. I have business cards all ready to go. Each school has their own policy when it comes to substitute teachers. Some schools have each teacher be responsible for their own substitute teachers and the secretary will try to get substitute teachers when it is short notice. Yet at other schools the secretary is responsible for getting all substitute teachers. I am on the sub list for more 8 schools, but I am not baking for everyone.

I'm in for trying something new. More gluten free cooking/baking around here.....I have needed to go GF for a long time and I'm going to try again. Also get back on track with meal planning. My goal for September is to clean out the basement, purge everything that can be sold and put away for Christmas shopping.

baby steps, start working on him slowly , I know my dh is not the quickest at tackling his mess of tools to be honest they are everywhere downstairs, I mean everywhere.

Bribery with sweet treats would work on me (lol), you are gonna be a pro-ficient baker. Good luck on the sub list and the baking. I think most of us know what it is like to be on 1 income at some point in our lives and it does suck but make the best out of it, baking, making freezer meals, getting things done around the house before you go to work and of course enjoy your little bundle of joy before they are in daycare.

awesome goals/challenges so happy you are up for the challenge....I think when someone accepts a challenge they are more apt to see it through to some extent. I really need to purge my basement as well but I think that will be done in October as I need dh to go through his stuff.....grrr....Anyways so happy that you are on board.

Me too! I want to enjoy the Christmas season not rush through it. My goal is to have Christmas shopping done and wrapped by mid November. The house decorated and ready Dec 1st! (we are planning to go South beginning of December so I don't want to come back to stress) Shopping is well under way (basically done youngest!)
