Since I am in Montreal and can't read the "feeling" in T.O. it's hard to call. Not sure who his fan base is but many people are die hards. Hey this coming from the province that elected the PQ and the Bloq as official opposition in parliament.

It is entirely possible. His die hards only make up about 20% of his vote, so even if they stay with him and the others who vote for him last time around don't, he won't make it. The problem is that the right vote is split, which could just push Ford ahead. The only candidate on the left is Chow, who is so far being called the front runner. But the election isn't until October and so much more could happen. Another factor is that while Ford's personal life seems to be a train wreck, his politics of 'stopping the gravy train' resonates with many people. Haven't heard anything yet about new polls since this second crack scandal, as the focus seems to be on a provincial election, but polls don't necessarily show turn out. If the police lay charges, I think that's a game changer. I have numerous reasons why I will not be voting for Ford, but the main reason is that he has demonstrated that he clearly cannot work with other people who do not agree with him. People still think he can 'stop the gravy train' even though it has basically been shown there really isn't much gravy. His 1 billion dollar savings number that he states as fact has been shown by city staff to be incorrect.

To add, I read an article in Toronto's Metro this morning about the female vote and Rob Ford. It basically said that despite Ford's lewd comments about women on various occasions, the alleged domestic incidents, stating that women prefer money for Christmas presents and that women need schooling on how politics work, women may still vote for him because of ideology.

Majority of Toronto residents think Rob Ford should resign: Poll

Almost two-thirds of Toronto residents think Rob Ford should resign, according to a poll taken in the hours after the mayor announced he is taking a leave of absence to seek help for alcohol abuse.
The percentage of people who would vote for him in the upcoming municipal election also dropped significantly, to 25 per cent from 29 per cent just two weeks ago.

And even among voters who support Ford, 15 per cent think he should resign, according to the Forum Research poll conducted Thursday evening.

The poll includes responses from 888 Torontonians reached by telephone. Its results are considered accurate within 3 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

if he's sincere in his rehab.... i think once he gets into it, he'll come step down from the election. he has waaaay too much work to do personally to worry about being mayor (or not being mayor). probably right now, he doesn't know how hard this is going to be. he's going to have to change his life completely and get rid of a lot of baggage - lisi, his sister, etc. when he really gets going on his rehab he'll see how important it is to get better and how much of a commitment it's going to be. he'll have to decide what his life is worth.
it's a long hard road. i wish him the best.

so true. IF he wins his battle with his addictions THAT is just the tip of his tangled web of a life. Politics should be off the table for Rob, for his own good.

I agree with what you're saying. He clearly cannot handle the stress and scrutiny that comes with the position of being mayor of Toronto, and if he were to get re-elected, what's to say he won't feel the pressure again and slip back. I want to believe that going to rehab will help him, but he's an addict and I've seen a few close friends go through at least 3 or 4 stints before they either got sober or died. If he wants to do what is best for the city, he'd step down and not seek re-election. It is best for the city and best for him and his family. He has young children who would probably like to grow up with a father around.

I think one of Ford's biggest challenges is going to be his family. From reading and hearing Doug's comments, he seems to think that now that Rob is in rehab, he's faced his problems (problems which Doug vehemently denied Rob had). If Rob's rehab is going to be successful, he's going to need the support of his family and at this point, I don't think they're equipped to do so, especially considering Kathy was the one who supposedly gave him the pipe in that last video.

one more thing. i hope the media leaves him alone. stop following him around and let him live in peace! give the man a chance. i know the worst recordings have come from his 'friends'. hopefully he'll stop hanging out with those characters so they don't have opportunities to come up with these titillating pieces of garbage.

For me, at least..it's six of one and half a dozen of the other. Mr Ford both courts the press by his actions and tries to avoid his actions being scrutionised by the press at the same time. Kind of the way a Playboy model doesn't want to be photo-ed at the beach with her family.

For the press on both sides of both the Atlantic and the Pacific, if you put yourself out on display as a public figure, then the press believes it still has the option to report on you "warts and all" even at times when it's not apprioatate like at a funeral for your child.

Mr Ford and his family should get out of the "No News is Bad News" frame of mind in order to help him recover and ensure the press find some-one else to focus on while he's healing.

But...they're TRUE titillating pieces of garbage of his own making!
If people can't trust him to take care of his own health and well-being, how
can anyone trust him to look after THEM?~
At his weight, however, he may not be a problem much longer unless he's
sincere about turning over a new leaf.
But he should still be banned from running ever again!

For the record that is a weed pipe not a crack pipe he was holding in that photo. Both Chow and Justin Trudeau have said they smoked pot and don't think it should be illegal. Will the globe go after them? Will they correct the mistake and mention its a weed pipe ( you know, for marijuana)? I doubt it

I think we are beyond that and the fact is he is a serial liar and totally out of control as a person. I am glad he is not my mayor. At least our corrupt b*stards are going to jail.
