    Hon, it seems that acid causing foods can make a body susceptible to disease, rather than thwarting their advances, and alkaline foods ward off diseases and keep one's immune system healthy.

    If you google "alkaline diets" or "alkaline foods" there'a ton of information out there..info that I wish I had many, many years ago...

    IthinkIcan, our bodies naturally have a PH balance to them. The scale ranges from 1-14 with 7 being neutral and the ideal place for your body to sit on the PH scale is 7.30-7.45. Anything under 7 is considered to be too acidic and where there is acid is where there is fermentation, and what does fermentation do? It allows things to bubble and brew, disease included. Particularly cancers.

    Cancers LOVE an acidic playground to play around in. So if you have cancer it is extremely important to subscribe to an alkaline diet. An alkaline diet means eating certain foods and omitting others (or at least capping what you are eating that are acid based) I've switched from RO water at home to alkaline (8.5 PH from the Water Source) and the only bottled water I keep in the fridge to take with me for on-the-go portability is Evian, because it also has a PH level of 7.2. Now how does one know their PH level in their body? Great question! And easily enough answered. I purchased PH Testing strips at my local Nutrition House, they come in a roll that you just rip off about a 1" piece, and it's a saliva based test. Do it first thing in the morning when your saliva hasn't touched coffee, water, etc, spit into a disposable styrofoam plate and run the strip through it, then just compare the colour of the strip to the grid on the package. I actually should do one tomorrow to see where I stand because when I first did it I was acidic, I made the dietary switch and water switch for only a few weeks and did it again and it had changed already. I haven't taken it since being back from Juravinski, so it would be interesting to see where I am. The test doesn't have to be taken often, just kind of "check up" on yourself.

    You're welcome IthinkIcan, and no worries, until I went into treatment I had no idea about the alkaline connection either. lol I researched it before hand and learned all about it.

    I weaned off of my dex on Friday, but I think that's what's causing me the severe pain I'm in. Grrr. I'm not having headaches but I'm having major pressure in my head, my right eardrum feels like it wants to pop out and I can't lay my head down it hurts so bad. I think my brain might be swelling and I shouldn't be off the dex yet. Phooey. So I plan to call my Dr in the morning to go in and see him, my husbands is all "want to go to the hospital?" Ummm to do what? Sit there? I mean sure, with my history they'd give me a CT Scan and could verify or rule out brain swelling but I really am so sick of hospitals. I think I'll just stay up tonight and recline on the sofa. My head is just so tender on top and my jaw hurts from the pressure it's so bad. Argh. Easy fix is go back on the dex (which I don't want to) but you do what you got to do.

    Take care Tara and hope you will be feeling better soon, its really impossible to be in another person's shoes and feel what they are feeling, esp. so for the helpless loved ones around you. But all the support, prayers and best wishes do help.......stay strong

    Thank you all I appreciate it. I didn't go to the ER (I refuse to be one of those people who clog the ER for stupid things) and I didn't call my Dr this morning either. I don't want to become a hypochondriac. lol I figure I'll give it a few days, take some T3s and see if I can get through it. If not, I'll see my Dr on Monday. It's painful but pain is kind of a constant anyways. I try to be positive and remember that feeling pain is just a way to remember that I'm alive.

    Okay, no.

    Pain may be a way of reminding us that we're alive, but it can also be a way of telling us that something's going on that needs to be dealt with, Hon. Please just call your doctor to let the office know of your pain and your concerns, and btw...weren't you also supposed to cal your oncologist on Monday about the dark mole on your temple? Hm? Have you done that?
    I tell ya, Hon...we're on top of things around here, and looking after you as best we can....
    So.....are you going to call or should WE? Hmph.

    Take care Sweetie....and we mean that! {{{{gentle hugs}}}}

    I found the perfect dress for you! I think you should flounce into your oncologist's office on your next appointment in it....setting a trend, you know? YOU'LL get attention, alright!

    Oh Lynn! Now if I had a body to wear that dress I'd do it! lol I called and I was told to call my dermatologist. Check. I can't get into see him until Nov 11 which is 6 days before I see my Oncologist. So I sit and wait.

    I am also slathering my face in cream which seems to be helping the burns some.
