well @crafter once DH mouth is all the way healed try making a batch of this!!
Bacon Bark....lol! I just came across this recipe.
Yeilds 8 servings
6 strips of center-cut bacon, cut with scissors into 1-inch pieces
1/4 cup of light brown sugar
Zest of 1/2 a lemon
1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika
Pinch of cayenne pepper
Freshly ground black pepper
For the nut mixture
1 cup of pecan halves, gently chopped
1 cup of slivered almonds
2 tablespoons of maple syrup
1/4 cup of light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika
1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice
Pinch of cayenne
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Line a baking sheet with foil.
In a large bowl, mix together the bacon, brown sugar, lemon zest, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, and a quick pinch of ground pepper. Mix thoroughly and spread onto a baking sheet.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until the bacon is cooked but still a bit rubbery-like
While the bacon is sizzling in the oven, mix together the pecans, almonds, maple syrup, brown sugar, smoked paprika, pumpkin pie spice and cayenne pepper. If desired add S & P to taste. Mix thoroughly.
When the bacon is done, remove to the bowl containing the nut mixture and mix thoroughly.
Tumble onto a silpat lined baking sheet in a flat layer and let bake for 15 minutes, mixing well halfway through.
After 15 minutes, open the oven door a bit, turn off the heat and let stay in the oven for another 15-20 minutes.
Remove and let cool to room temperature.
When the bacon bark has cooled, break into big pieces and put into a sealed container or jar.

Found pound of Brie cheese in the FlashFood fridge for $3 and decided to find out if baking it is as good as everyone tells me. I can feel my arteries hardening, already!
I don't have a phone, so I asked a gal from CustServ if she wouldn't mind buying it and I could pay her in cash. She bought it and refused to accept payment. She said that it would be my (late) Diwali gift. What a dear. I'll have to ambush her in the future with some cream puffs. My food may not befit a king, but I eat like a horse.

I'm very thankful that the Dad and his 2 toddlers weren't hurt when they slid off the road this morning. I was walking my dog when I heard the truck trying to stop. It went off the road and hit a small tree. Thankfully someone stopped for them and and an undercover cop was onsight within minutes.

Walked into my mother's favourite Chinese restaurant to get her some food and a 2022 Chinese lunar calendar. They advertised that they are free with $50 purchase, but gave me one even though I was only buying an $18 meal because they recognized me as a regular weekly customer.
Not requiring me to negotiate or beg for one is a small gesture, but we Chinese regard it as a deeper sign of showing respect or 'giving face'.My food may not befit a king, but I eat like a horse.

I previously posted a bit of a rant about having to maintain single household bubble while my kids were in overcrowded classes (29 kids in ds2’s class) in the covid update thread…
Anyway the circuit breaker finally ended on Friday after 6 weeks living with it in my area. Even more good news though. My kids school is hiring a new teacher for ds2’s grade. They’ve already picked the kids that are shifting to the other teacher. Ds2, his best friend, and a couple other friends are staying with their current teacher. (He’s one of the best/nicest teachers in the school and was previously ds1’s teacher about 3 years ago.) so I am thankful that the class size will be shrinking but ds2 will be staying with all his favourite friends and his current teacher.Intergalactic Proton Powered Electrical Tentacled Advertising Droids!

I'm so thankful for the remote starter we have for our car. I have to watch a youtube video on how to work it each time I use it but it's super handy when the car is icy

I am so much more than thankful today that even though I had to pay OOP for an expense not budgeted for....it could have been so much worse!

We were both so thankful for a friend's visit out to see us today. Even though, two other friends couldn't make it, our good friend drove on her own for 2 hours to see us for a nice walk, lunch, visit and drive back home for an Xmas function tonight.
She brought us a dozen buttertarts from the Maid's cottage in NewmarketWe sent her home with 6 buttertarts made locally here (Tracy's buttertarts are sold locally in most grocery stores here)
**truly good friends are hard to come by...we certainly lucked out**
