LOLCAT: my turn to ask you a question now. lol may be a dumb question but will i'm a guy so thats my excuse and i'm sticking to it. lol my wife got a doc appt on monday and she will be 11 wks pregnant. Can you hear the heart beat then. We want our daughter there the first time we hear the heart beat but dont' wanna take her outta school if we won't be able to hear. tks.

Well, I am still up, cannot sleep because the baby keeps kicking me in the bladder. This one is starting early with that nonsense. So, I will answer Snake's question. I cannot get into my PM's tonight, SC keeps giving me an error. So if anyone PM'd me, sorry I am not answering!

Snake.. this is just a regular appointment, right? The earliest you can hear the heartbeat on the doppler (That thing that they put lubricant on and place on wifey's belly) is about 10 weeks. BUT that depends on a lot of things. If she is pretty skinny in the belly area, you should be able to hear it.. but if not, that extra layer can keep you from hearing it till around 14 weeks.

Here's the thing.. It sounds like this is your first doctor's appointment. I wouldn't take your older girl if that is the case. For a few reasons. #1, you might not be able to hear the heartbeat, and that might actually upset her. She can't really tell her Mom is pregnant yet, since she's probably not showing much, and it might make her nervous if the doctor cannot find the HB. #2.. you haven't seen a doctor yet.. Honestly, even at 11 weeks, there can be things wrong that you don't know about (PROBABLY NOT) and you wouldn't want to make her upset if something turned out to be wrong. Better to wait until the next appointment to take her along, then she can definately hear a heartbeat, and most likely the doctor won't say anything that could even mildly make her worry.
She's probably super excited about having a sibling, better to wait till you know she can have a great experience. Just don't tell her if you get to hear the heartbeat first

I'm off to bed now, been a long day. Spent the day with my friend, now that she's got a date for surgery, she's really getting nervous. I went with her to the pre-op appt, & I was sooo impressed. ECG, bloodwork, consultation - all done in one spot, none of the usual running around the hospital that I've always had to do. I'll be calling the patient relations person tomorrow & telling them how wonderful & efficient (not to mention so very very sweet) the nurse was, answering all questions, she's even going to check on my friend in recovery. It's so nice to be reminded there are still lots of nice people in this world.


The cat was ticked off at me when I got home. Apparently, he hasn't been able to sleep in his bed all day cause the dog put her teddy bear (which is 3 times the size of the cat) there. I think she was getting him back for hiding behind my exercise ball & jumping out at her, grabbing her tail, early this morning. I do get a good laugh when the dog comes whining to me because the cat stole her spot in the sun, & the cat comes screaming at me because the dog won't give him her cookie (yes, he wants ALL the cookies, the brat).
