Sorry to hear that!
Someone tried to steal my car once upon a time. The 2 little teen brats decided to run quickly away from the crazy lady waving an umbrella at them. Too bad they ran faster than I did.

They also took all the change out of the little well in the cup holder thingy(about $3) but Larry had spilled ice tea in there earlier so all the change was sticky. I hope they got all messy. B*st*rds!

The last time my car was broken into, I didn't bother repairing the lock (passenger side), just left the screwdriver hole there. Came in handy once at the food bank, I had locked myself out of the car on a -40 day, and got a parolee doing community service to open my car with a screwdriver, so easy-peasy.
So I'm guessing your insurance deductible was too high to cover the repairs and loss, then?

Yes to keep my insurance at around $650 I have all my deductables at $1000. It makes no sense to claim and then have it tacked on to my premiums for the next 5 years. Thankfully they are not power locks. My mechanic who I have had for more than 20 years said if I left it, it might slip back into the jammed position and because the little peep hole is now left open all the crud would get in and seize it up in no time. The locks themselves are $71 plus $25 for the key programming(hate coded keys) and 1 hour labor each side. So looking at around $300ish. At the dealer it would be twice that amount.
