Ah, just a different system in a different province. Here, kids can get their learner's at 15 if they go through a driver education program at high school and can get their driver's at 16.
I got my learner's at 14 (my poor parents!) because I had skipped a year of school, but had to take the driver's ed program with everyone else in my class, and got my driver's a week after I was 16.
Then, there was no graduated program, but I'm glad there was by the time our son went through it. It limits the number of passengers, etc. with the novice program.Last edited by Natalka; Fri, Jun 1st, 2012 at 09:13 AM.

Here the kids can get their learners at 14. They can drive with anyone that has a valid liscense in the vehicle with them, but cannot carry more passengers than there is seatbelts and cannot drive after dark! Scary thought......... all my dd's except the last on had their learner at 14 and had their regular liscense on or the week after their 16th birthday.
Sometimes, with all the accidents with youth and alcohol I wish we would turn things around like they do in the netherlands. Youth are allowed to drink alcohol at 16 years of age, but are not permitted to get their license until 21. I know there are arguements on both sides of that fence, but the main train of thought is that after 5 years of being able to legally drink, most people have that "Let's Party" out of their system, have steady jobs or in school full time and are for the most part responsible young adults.
Any thoughts on that???We all need a little sunshine every now and then

I was drinking a (small) glass of beer with my dinner by the time I was 4. I was also playing bartender (& according to the adults I made a mean whiskey sour
) at all functions by the time I was 6 (that's what happens when one's parents have older friends with grown children
). When I was old enough to drive, I was designated driver to all, because I really didn't want to pay outrageous prices for drinks at clubs & rather enjoyed getting my free Diet Coke.
Wonder if 'get yer kids drinking young & get em hooked on freebies early' works as good parenting advice?

Kiera made me breakfast. How sweet. She also knew exactly what I eat. Pretty smart for a girl who just turned 7.
