Its all a matter of packaging the way I see it... Just like the $2000 washing machine has the same parts as the $900 one... Its a matter of packaging, and making it appear to your eye... Besides I would rather not add more styrofoam use into my household,I am trying to get rid of it all! The tube is cheaper packaging... U can't see it, so they can price it different... The chances of your styrofoam packs coming into conact with butts is just the same

And yes dr. Oz is a parinoid person and I'd actually rather live my life then go thru it worried about every lil thing... According to him if I eat mcdonalds I am gonna die, so y haven't I already? There was a time I ate it daily...for several months (I know gross) but I am a very healthly person and get sick maybe once or twice a year... Not gonna believe someone who makes money by getting viewers using scare tactics... Same reason I boycott the news

But that's just my opinion... Take it or leave it, and if it doesn't make a whole lotta sense I am running on 3 hours of sleep so I am not exactlly eistien right now

I think we have to value educated, logical information. we also have the choice to use info as we choose, but to ignore proven facts, documented observations and logic isn't the best way to go.

and you had 3 hours?? i'm jealous! haha

Proven facts? Facts are "proven" one day and sometimes not even a week later it is no longer fact... Look at the example of any kinda thing on the store shelf, how many of the same kinda product all claim to be number 1 recommended? Well its because the company the produces it has hired people with that opinion...
Did u know that in canada u can get a survay published as fact if there are only 4 people taking place in the " testing" and the government will quote these figures from these studies with as little as four peoples opinions and then its taken as a "proven" fact...

We all have our own opinions and nothing I saw will change them (most likely) we will all continue doing what we think is best for our families (ourselves in some cases) and life will go on... If u eat cowbum beef or not...

Also is e-coli not killed by cooking it properly? If it is then what's all the fuss? All ground beef probably came from something we don't wanna eat if we thought about it, even if it came from a butchers shop...

I've bought it for the price - but I try not to buy it -- I like to see the meat!

Oh good grief...I started this thread and the bed-bug one AND I watch Dr Oz!! What's wrong with me?! He's in my brain and I look at everything I eat with such suspicion now! I'm just going to have to go on a diet.....a no-watching-Dr-Oz-diet.
I mean...I do like nuts and berries, but I don't have time to count out ounces of them each day. And I've been consuming cow-bum-in-a-tube since they came out and I'm healthy as a....well....horse! Which look pretty healthy to me.
So Dr Oz: IF I ever flip to your show again, it had better be about something I care about and that isn't going to poison me! Like make-up....or pretty nail polishes....or...omg....don't they contain Phalates??!!!

Oh, gosh, Lynn, you really don't know that makeup and nail polish have many hazardous ingredients?
Input the brand and item, check the hazard score - and which ingredients are problems. The good thing is it lists the ingredients...

(Sorry, hun, I just couldn't resist!!!) I am arching my eyebrow the way Dr. Oz does...

I love this thread, people speaking my mind about something that scares the crap outta me. I am a freak when it comes to any type of meat. Got really sick from contaminated meat before.
I purchased the ground beef in the tube before, and had no problems. But when i bought a second time, i was totally disgusted with the color and odour of the meat the second time. Have never bought it since.
I would just rather be able to see the meat before buying it. With the tubes, I cannot see it.

The tubes at my Save On are clear wrap and are usually "lean" ground meat (so I guess cow butt is pretty lean). I have bought them because I have trained my mind to be in denial at will; *inner dialogue* "why is this cheaper? what exactly is in here? never mind! looks fine, it's a great price...".
Next time however, cow butt will be stuck in my mind LOL

Oh my join the club!.. I'm worried when I go to buy ground beef next time that I'll be holding the meat in aisle and start laughing uncontrollably.. Wouldn't that be a sight

Hi, Natalka...Oh, yes I do know! I've been on other lists that give the exact ingredients in cosmetics....and OMG....if I ever gave it any thought when I'm buying my make-up I'd be walking around the street with a nekked face! And believe me....that's NOT a pretty sight. Must....have....mascara......!!!
So, like Dee09....I have an inner dialogue too. "This could kill me. But sweetie...it's such a pretty colour! But it could be dangerous to my health. Honey....you REALLY want people to see you the way you wake up in the morning??!!!"
That's the kind of argument that sends me straight to the cash-register.

Its funny...our local butcher sells ground beef in tubes. And when we take wild game in to him to be cut (moose/elk/deer) *surprise* it comes in a tube! Think about it folks, quicker to package, and less packaging means lower cost. And the meat isn't exposed to air, so it won't freezer burn. Seems like a pretty smart idea to me .
And for the record, I have purchased ground beef in "regular" packages that has been nice and pink on top, and a very unhealthy shade of brown inside.

    Just my two bits!

Robyn, I totally agree with you - from a reputable butcher, fine. But generic tubed meat you don't know how long it was frozen, etc. - for me that's a no.

hmm, i wasn't talking about marketing claims on packaging, or marketing surveys. sample research has it's place, but is not the sole source of the many scientific facts that we know today.
