You hit the nail right on the head, Dave!
    It's all about the ratings!
    Absolutely shameful!!!

I saw Anderson Cooper's interview with said hate-monger...he's just blinded by hatred! Nothing...no common sense will ever get through to that 'thing'! I can't even call him a 'man'. Just another self-righteous, self-important, holier-than-thou evangelist!
    Such scary people....!

I personally dont think Sc is the place to discuss religion.

    I was thinking the same.

I just think there should be more open-minded people in the world and less hate. end of discussion.

Just as an aside, if anyone wants a free copy of the Quran you can get an English copy here:

    http://www.freequran.ca/

I ordered one a couple of years ago just to see what was in it, and didn't find anything terribly objectionable in there. Admittedly, I just skimmed it.

Also, the folks who send this out don't pester you. I've never received another mailing or any other contact from them. So there won't be any missionaries at your door, lol.

I personally don't find the question itself offensive but I think the manner in which it was executed could have been a bit more tactful. Jmo

I was stunned to see the title of the thread when I logged on...sometimes just taking the time to put together a well put tittle can be very helpful and cause less ruckus. But I find no offense to the question you really wanted to ask. But the tittle could have had more thought put into it.

In madchives defense, had I wanted to talk about this story I probably would have had a title like that. I like catchy titles, I have a thread recently, titled 'I have a really nice bum'. The poll, I think was the problem rather than the title with this thread.

I would have made a similar title:

Will you be burning a Quran on Sept 11?

Then my OP would have been something like:

    No? Well these idiots are.

Followed by the link to the story from one of the major news organizations.

I wouldn't have had a poll at all.

And madchives, this is just constructive criticism, no offense intended. I've just been doing this for a while.

For me, it wasn't the fact that they were burning a religious book. I look at it as a calculated move to spread hatred towards others and this will lead to some deaths either now or down the road and that in a nutshell is why I find his action abhorrent.

This disgusts me so much. How dare this pastor or whatever say hes a man of god yet brings so much hate into the world. I'm not a religous person, but if theres a god, i'm sure it would be a god of love not hate.

this world is soooo messed up and people like these make it even worse. This crap makes me so angry. Why not focus your engry on something good and possitive, something that would make the world better.

    This truely kills me.

well an update, breaking info from the cbc:

Terry Jones, head of the Dove World Outreach Center of Gainesville, Fla., said after praying on the issue, he is calling off his plan to burn Qur'ans on Saturday.
At a press conference late Thursday afternoon, Jones said he decided to cancel the event because he spoke to a person in the office of the imam who was behind a planned Islamic centre near Ground Zero in New York, and that the imam had agreed to move the controversial location.
The agreement couldn't be immediately confirmed.
Jones's plans to burn Islam's holiest text on Saturday sparked an international outcry.
U.S. President Barack Obama, the top U.S. general in Afghanistan and several Christian leaders had urged Jones to reconsider his plans, saying his actions would endanger U.S. soldiers and provide a strong recruitment tool for Islamic extremists.
Jones's protest also drew criticism from religious and political leaders from across the Muslim world.

the rumour is jones is going to the site of the mosque in new york on
saturday to meet with the iman - holy ,,,,,,

p.s. sort of sorry about the title, veevee
oh geee, just noticed where this thread is, hahahaaa
