I'm going to make apple turnovers later on today. I already have the filling prepared. I always bake or cook when I'm supposed to be studying. Grrr procrastination.

Just baked my first Paska - Ukrainian Easter bread. Normally I would make Babka (a different bread) and buy Paska at the church sale, but I didn't go this year.
Found a new recipe so I could use the breadmaker, and it was really nice dough.
Everything went well with shaping the dough and making the decorations, baked it - perfectly golden BUT the bugger had to be pretty much cut out of the pan, for gosh' sake, I'm SO not happy! So all around the base, it's all crumbly.
- I greased the pan really well, too... have used it before, this has never happened before.
Will post a pic later when I stop being mad.

Yup, Janetta, that's what I'm doing for the second batch - just got them in the oven.
8:30 - they came out of the pans just right and look awesome!Last edited by Natalka; Wed, Apr 20th, 2011 at 10:32 PM.

Second type of Easter bread on the go, called Babka. It's a richer, sweeter bread than Paska, and it has raisins.
It's a lot less work, the dough just goes in pans (well, cans - because it's supposed to be a cylindrical shape). But of course, this year (like every one) I cut a thumb knuckle greasing the cans!
Oh, about the Paska I baked yesterday - it's delish, but more like Kolach (another type of bread) because I forgot to add a bit of sugar. Oh, well!Last edited by Natalka; Thu, Apr 21st, 2011 at 11:35 AM.

I just came across your post "Last thing you baked?" and I start to think hmmm what was the last thing...OMG my pumpkin loaves are in the oven LOL . I got told the other day that I had to free up the freezer of my frozen pumpkin so I thought I'd make something with it... but got caught up in the forums on SmartCanucks and never heard the timer go off. They still look okay, but have no idea how long they were in the oven... but they aren't burned so that's a bonus

num num. I love the holidays. What a great excuse to bake!
So tonight I've made:
a lemon blueberry loaf with lemon glaze;
a raspberry loaf with orange glaze,
a dozen full size oat bran flax muffins with raisins
18 more of the same muffins but bite size ones instead
31 (soon to be 30) peanut butter chocolate chip cookies."Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken." Oscar Widle

LOL...for a change, it was lovely to sit outside today! I still had to have my spring jacket on, but jeepers! It could have been a winter coat, with the snow we had last week!!!
Ninna, it's my first time making those squares...I'll let you know if they turned out...although even if they don't look great, I can tell you they'll sure taste great!! The 'crust' called for lemon tea biscuits crushed up...I've never seen anything like that here, so I tossed in about a tsp of lemon rind...hooo-boy! It tasted so good! I almost didn't have enough rind for the lemon topping part! The middle is cheesecake. If you ever want the recipe (I realize it might be a little late for Easter) just let me know!
Happy Easter, Hon!
