My 14 year old is having surgery to remove the two strange lumps on her feet.
She will be attended to by a plastic surgeon immediately so her feet will be 'repaired' right away.
They still don't know what the lumps are but I hope we will now soon have an answer.
I am scared, it is her first surgey since being diagnosed with diabetes. I know they have a special protocol in place for her. But I am still worried.
But happy it is finally being done.
So please keep us in your thoughts and prayers please. She had one postponement already because of the flu but thankfully she is fine today so everything should be a go.
She goes into the preoperation meeting today, with the hospital endricrinologist, anesthetist, surgery nurse etc, to walk us through the whole procedure and what to do if she goes low during the night before , how to adjust her insulin amounts before and after the procedure etc. I wish she was in childrens hospital where her diabetes team is, but the orthopedic surgeon and plastic surgeon don't work there.
Surgery is scheduled for tomorrow morning at a 7:00 AM.
And I hope the lumps are " nothing" and that will be the end of the whole thing.
And please pray that she heals quickly with no complications. This thread is currently associated with: N/ALast edited by hollyhill; Thu, Feb 2nd, 2012 at 10:50 AM.

Oh, being a Mom is particularly difficult when a child is sick or, as in your case, facing surgery. Miracles happen every day, and surgery has come such a long way, that your daughter will come through this beautifully! Remain positive, and pray...

wishing her all the best!!
on the side note: i did the surgery 20 days ago..it turned to be a fibre..it was one painful recovery ..but the doc did remove the lump and shortened the toe a bit!! so in her case we'll be easier hopefully!! she should get plenty of rest afterwards and may wear open shoes at the beginning!
best of luck!Last edited by danielzmom; Thu, Dec 8th, 2011 at 04:18 PM.

I will keep her, and you in my prayers. The worst part of being a mom is when our children have surgery or they get sick. Stay strong for her and yourself.

It sounds like you've got a lot on your plate right now. Just try to focus on the surgery as a positive thing - being one step closer to getting some answers as to what's going on.
All the best to your daughter for a speedy recovery... and all the best to you for hanging in there and being there to support her through this - that's a big, and incredibly important, job in itself!

Oh. That sounds awful. A shortened toe! Are you feeling more comfortable? They told me to expect about 10 days till full recovery, I am hoping that is exagerated. It took this long to get it going because the pediatric orthopedic surgeon want a plastic surgeon that specialized in hands and feet to be with him during surgey to 'fix' her up after the lumps are removed.

Oh ten days sounds great I had surgery on my foot, but it was because of a broken bone and couldn't walk for two months... Good luck, be strong. I was surprised at how calm I stayed up until my surgery date, I kept reasoning without it my foot wouldn't heal properly so that kept the anxiety down (a bit)....
