Well I would go, but DH says no way. Looking at Orlando or Costa Rica. But as for the article that talked about no cash - no medical care, that isn't unusual around the world.

I would rather go some place nice where I don't run a high risk being beaten to a bloody pulp because I'm a tourist...

It's always been on the list of countries we never really wanted to go to... but then believe it or not, we almost booked that resort (riu emerald bay) a couple of weeks ago because the deal was so good! ... SO glad we changed our minds and booked Jamaica instead!!! Can't wait to be back there in a few weeks!

For sure. Have been going for years and see no reason not to.
But then again I'm from the Murder Capital of Canada.

Nope, infact you couldn't pay me to go. Violence happens everywhere, I get that BUT when tourists are constant targets of crime often resulting in death, the place isn't for me.

I would go to Mexico but more off the beaten track, so to say..
However in my younger travelling days, I missed being shot at in Luxor , avoided an election riot in Nairobi involving our hotel being tear-gassed and leaving Gambia the day before a military coup I think I should take a Karma-hint for the moment.
Short answer : no Long answer : NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Nope, but then again I had no desire to go in the first place. There's too many other places I'm interested in.

Like say you were shot in back of the head in Mexico they will say it's suicide. The governor of the state says the beating of Sheila Nabb was domestic. They will do or say anything to cover their butts.Would never go to Mexico.

I'm with Jays...been there, not going back. There are plenty of beautiful places in the world to see. I read somewhere that tourists are being picked off by the drug cartels in retaliation for the government's crackdown on their activities (such as they are)...ruin tourism and hurt the tourist $ coming into the gov't coffers...pressuring the gov't to lay off them.
Whatever the reason...I won't go back.
