What's blooming in your yard?

oh dh should be happy thanks Go.. and the hosts are just little ones. he started a few years ago with a big one and started splitting them up. so they are about 5-6 leaves per plant. not sure what he's going to do with them all this year. plant a few keep reproducing or split them and 'bucket' them to sell. i know they'd sell for sure. we've seen them anywhere from $5-$25 each plant at sales. these are small ones.

Yes hostas are really expensive. I was lucky to get mine at a plant exchange at work one year. I think I started with maybe 4. I now have them split up and have about 18 good size plants allmaround thd yard. I also bought 2 new ones last year a lime color.

my monkshood is whitish with purple streaks, it was on the property when we bought it. The neighbours also have this plant....it seems to do well anywhere here. I recognized it in the yard because I used to work as a florist, and used this quite a bit. I was completely unaware of the toxicity...

Perhaps you’ve heard the old proverb that warns not to plant until after the “Three Ice Men” have passed, but do you know who these mysterious Ice Men are? The tradition comes from Northern Europe, and is tied to the successive feasts of St. Mamertus, St. Pancras, and St. Servatius, whose respective days occur on May 11, 12, and 13. They are also sometimes referred to as the “Three Chilly Saints.”
In Europe’s not-too-distant past, parts of the continent remained rather cold through the middle of May, making planting before then risky. German and Swiss lore refers to mid-May as “Iceman Days,” while an old French saying states “St. Mammertius, St. Pancratius and St. Gervatius (the Francophone spelling of the three saints’ names) do not pass without a frost.” Because the agrarian people of medieval Europe weren’t likely to be literate, let alone aware of calendar dates, they measured time by observing nature and by the church calendar. Remembering that the last frost of the year generally falls around the feast of Servatius was a useful marker for pre-modern farmers.
In some regions, the lore goes on to note that rain will fall on feast of St. Sophia, marking the beginning of planting season. For this reason, May 15 is referred to as “Zimna Zośka,” or “Cold Sophia” in Poland.
One point of interest is that this bit of lore dates back to before the creation of the Gregorian calendar in 1582, at which time most days of the year shifted somewhat. While the feasts of the Three Chilly Saints are still celebrated from May 11-13 on our calendar, these days used to fall a little later in the astronomical year – from May 19-22.

I really dislike mother nature right now. had to cover my plants, and now need to bring in the ones I didnt plant.
I did though go out today and bought more plants, of course more than I need. The nursery I went to had geraniums on sale for .97. Their small but grow fast. I bought some last year. I bought 17 this year. Weird number, I wasnt counting just picked as I went. Reds , whites and orange. Then some coleus x4 kinds, and allysum. Large vanilla marigolds were .49 and got a few verbenas and other basket fillers. The way this weather iz going dont know if we will ever see summer around here.

I'm on the B.C. South Coast-there is a lot of winter rain,but my kale is about to go to seed,and there's a volunteer squash coming up in the garden.........It'll rain for the long weekend,I'm sure,but it's 23C right now.

I planted my garden on Mother's Day, and have some seeds sprouting already. Sorry for you easterners; this week out in vancouver has been sunny and 23-27

Hopefully all goes well for my square foot garden. 3 tomatoes, second row peas/cucumbers ) I set up a mesh pea fence, and have it extending over the edge attached to the fence to have the cucs vine outward. My 3 yr old should have a few pumpkins to carve. 3 jalepenos, 2 cayenne, 1 bell ( a steal for 1.29 each at a local green house- Home Depot wanted 2.29) green onions, cilantro, kale, beans, carrots, radish, oregano, thyme, parsley, mint, garlic, 3 kinds of lettuce(2 leaf, and butterleaf).

Got a new rosemary plant in a pot to bring in for winter.
Basil and cat grass are sprouting in recycled plastic lettuce containers. I have a celery heart stating to root. Strawberries are blooming like crazy too. Yeah for spring!
