Yesterday, a young boy of between 6-8 years came to our door to trick or treat. He was with what appeared to be his balding father wearing a white hockey mask, and his mother, who was strangely dressed. As we had more candy than kids, I threw a pile of candy into the kid's bag. I said, "Happy Hallowe'en!" and went to close the door.
Before I could do so, the mother stepped foward, and, arms outstretched, thrust an open pillowcase over the threshold. The movement was so sharp, sudden, and intentional that I'm surprised it didn't hurt her elbows. I stared. She was a large, thickset, frowzy-looking woman with hair that had, at some point, been dyed bright red. It had grown out about three inches, leaving dark roots. She was wearing a men's undershirt over her jacket. On it were splatters of red paint and words scrawled in black marker across her belly:
"Zombie Baby. 42 Weeks"
I looked at her, surprised.
"You're after chocolate?" I asked. I'm pretty sure my eyebrows made it all the way up to my hairline.
Her lips drawn in to a straight line, she nodded once, curtly, straightening her elbows and pushing the pillowcase further through the doorway.
I threw a couple of pieces of chocolate into her bag, all the while wondering where these people had come from.

When I dropped the kids off at daycare this morning, I was telling our daycare provider the story.
"You know what you should have given her?" she said, laughing, "Condoms."
I'll have to remember that for next year. They'll help to protect her against future zombie attacks. This thread is currently associated with: RootsLast edited by Minou; Thu, Nov 1st, 2012 at 10:33 PM.

That's really strange. I can't believe that she was so pushy!

I have to say, I don't agree when adults and/or babies are trick or treating. It's pretty obvious who is getting the candy.

That is ridiculous, I understand dressing up "the bump" but to go as far as trick or treating for an unborn baby? I didn't take my 9.5month old daughter trick or treating this year and everyone was in shock wondering why I didn't. My thoughts were that obviously I was going to get the candy, and it just felt wrong. We passed out candy with her dressed up instead.

*shakes head*
wow man. pretty hilarious. buuuut on the other end of the spectrum....
perhaps she is suffering financially a bit and thought perhaps if they double trick or treated then she could get more candy for the kid she already has.

This could be true but candy isn't something that a child should be getting double of. If one is in a financial situation they should be going to the local food bank instead to get real food. Just my thoughts.
I agree, when I was younger I never understood women taking their babies in strollers trick or treating. If the kid is of walking age then that is fine but they should really only have something as small or smaller then your average shopping bag because I highly doubt kids that age will eat all the candy and the parents shouldn't get it especially those who don't even dress up.
My sister took my nephew who turned 2 in August. He can walk and was going as an orange kitty cat. I'm sure at his age he didn't last too long and a few treats is really plenty. At that age it should be about the fun of dressing up.
I still can't believe a grown woman was collecting candy for ... herself? Or an unborn baby?
If it had of been me I would of just played dumb and told her I already gave her some for her son and that I didn't see any other kids I missed in their ontourage.
EDIT: Nephew was a yellow kitty cat ... sorry!!!Last edited by PurpleBunny89; Fri, Nov 2nd, 2012 at 09:40 AM.

I was handing out candy at my sisters place on halloween and i got this group of teenagers come up and i couldnt see any costume, so I asked hey I cant see what you guys are supposed to be thru your coats.. and they said oh we're babies.. we're in our pjs.. so I said where's your pacifiers then haha? but i still gave them candy. since we had maybe 20 kids.
imho i wouldnt give an adult candy, thats just being greedy.

That is just bad, like come on! Adults should be doing the following on Halloween:
Taking their kids out and only having the kids do the trick or treating
Giving out Candy
Checking their kids candy to make sure it is safe
Seriously...

We took ds1 out on his first Halloween. (Went as a group with some friends that have 4 kids) he did collect candy and had a couple of aero bars. Dh and I each had a candy and we left the rest for our friends kids. This year dh took ds1out trick or treating with my mom and I stayed home with ds2. Then dh took Ds1 over to our friends place to show off his costume and play while my mom stayed with me and ds2.
This is the first year ds1 gets to keep all his candy. Ds2 is still too young for baby food even so he doesn't even get to try a chocolate.I think its ok to take out younger kids depending on the circumstances. However for an unborn baby is crazy IMO.Intergalactic Proton Powered Electrical Tentacled Advertising Droids!

I agree with you on that. Yes, it is cute to see babies in their cute costumes, but if your seriously going to go out with them, maybe just go next door and that's it lol. Or let family members put candy in their bags for the experience and pictures lol. Not like seriously going to 100 doors to get candy when the kid can not eat it anyway.

Treat everyone with politeness, even those who are rude to you – not because they are nice, but because you are.

Or turning off almost all of their lights in the front of the house so children aren't coming to their door to ring the bell. Wasted so much of my time as a child. As an adult, if I had a house (apartment currently) I would definitely be one of those lights out houses. I'm just not really into halloween. I don't really like the idea (now as an adult, when I was a child was completely different obviously) of getting edible products for strangers.

I went trick or treating until I was about sixteen and every year I had just as much fun as I had the previous year. Most times people were very good about it. A few times we were asked if we didn't think we were too old to be trick or treating and we asked them honestly if they would rather we be out getting candy or getting into trouble? We did end up getting a lot of offers for cigarettes and beer the last year we went, which I think was the deciding factor to not go out the next year! LOL.
This year we took our son out. He isn't quite 2. He is walking but we brought the stroller along and just walked him up the drive way. We went to twelve houses in total, he got a nice little basket full of candy which he gets to choose a special treat from when he is good. Everyone seemed to really enjoy seeing him and no one looked at us strangely and we were all dressed up too. But I never would go to the door expecting candy for myself!
