    Question of the Day???

What will you do with the increased UCCB $160.00 for children aged 6 and under and $60.00 for childen aged 6 through 17.

So just wondering those that qualify what if any are your plans??

Please note the UCCB is a taxable benefit my accountant informed me

I would like to take the lump sum payment and deposit back into 1 of the many accounts that we depleted to pay off our LOC back in September 2014 and then play catchup 1 account at a time until we are back to where we should be.

Yes it is a taxable benefit so when I received it for my youngest I put the $ in my RRSP. I think you may have the amounts wrong, I received $100 per month for age 6 and under. Now ages 6 and under are getting an increase above the $100 per month and ages 7-17 are getting $60-70 per month (sorry I'm too lazy to google and confirm amount but I'm pretty sure we aren't getting $120 per kid per month for ours over the age of 6.

I just looked it up. The new amounts will be $160 per month per child aged 6 and under.
$60 per month per child aged 7-17.

FYI, Frugalbigmama is right, the amounts will be $160 per month for children 6 and under and $60 per month for children 6 - 17.

I already collect $100 per month for youngest DD who's 4 (I used to get $200 until my oldest turned 7). As this is a taxable benefit and I don't pay for childcare (childcare usually would offset any tax implications), I put this amount towards sports for the girls and also contribute to my RRSP. Since I will be getting an additional $120 ($60 per child) I plan on opening an RESP for the girls. This doesn't give me a tax break but since its "free money" I might as well save it towards their education.

Okay I put the carriage before the horse so ages 6 through 17 would receive $720 a year which is $60.00 a month

In 2006, the Government introduced the Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB), which provides all families with up to $1,200 per year for each child under the age of 6. The UCCB currently provides direct federal support to approximately 1.7 million families with young children.
Now, the Government is proposing to enhance the UCCB by providing up to $1,920 per year for each child under the age of 6, and introducing a new benefit of up to $720 per year for children aged 6 through 17.
The UCCB enhancements would take effect starting January 2015 and would begin to be reflected in monthly payments to recipients in July 2015, pending parliamentary approval of the necessary legislation. The July 2015 payment would include up to six months of benefits to cover the January to June 2015 period. About 4 million families are expected to benefit from these enhancements. These enhancements to the UCCB would replace the Child Tax Credit, starting in the 2015 tax year.

I got called to teach Pre-K this morning, .6 day. A French immersion teacher booked me for a 1/2 day in April, but she might later turn it into a full day. I had another school book me to teach the entire day tomorrow. All of these are in town, so no extra commuting costs.

I had an issue with some extra salty Ruffles chips, so I called them. They are mailing me a replacement coupon.

We qualify for the $160 a month for each of the children. The twins are due this August, so I will start receiving the extra money from them in the fall. We currently put the $100/month straight into an education fund for LO. Last dh and I had talked about it, we plan on keeping it at $100 a month for each child into an education fund and then use the additional $60 for regular child expenses.

I thought that the $160/month started from when they are born until age 17. Am I wrong about this? We currently receive the $100/month for LO who is 2.5yrs old.

    | thoughts so too but it's $60.00 for ages 6 through 17 and not $160 but $160.00 up to age six. The increase officially started but won't be receiving the extra $60.00 until July....hope I'm not confusing you

Just put supper in the oven - porkchop and rice bake. Will make some sort of veg or salad to go with.

Wanted to share my fave frosting - I find ones made with icing sugar too sweet.
This one is just sweet enough and is really flavourful - I adore the buttery texture.

Best Icing (yes, that's what it was called in the cookbook)
    ----------

    5 Tbsp flour
    1 cup milk
    1 cup white sugar
1 cup shortening (I use margarine or butter)
    1 tsp vanilla

Note - you need to leave time for the flour mixture to cool before going on to the second step.

In a pan, cook flour and milk until thick, stirring constantly - I use a whisk. It's very thick. Cool.

In a bowl, cream sugar and shortening, add vanilla and beat until fluffy.

Add the cooled flour mixture, and beat until it looks like whipped cream - maybe 7-10 min.
    Yes, it's a long time!
