It's the third day that we have had my 19 month old twin nephews from breakfast until bedtime each day. I just bathed them this morning. My brother, SIL, and her mom are all packing up their house and loading it into a trailer. SIL is on a type of home dialysis, I don't know how to explain it on here. She is unable to walk up the 5 steps into their house unassisted. My brother says that she was sick for 2 months locally, being repeatedly misdiagnosed and mistreated, before she was eventually hospitalized in May and everything went downhill from there. My nephews also require specialists that are located in Regina, etc. It isn't a traditional thanks giving at our house. We are helping my only local family move away to be closer to better medical care. I'm having a hard time feeling thankful at the moment.

Had lunch with my parents and brother and family, now back home to get ready for the week. It's a lot of driving as they are 3 hours round trip.
We are cleaning the gas fireplace in anticipation of cooler temps but the house is still 21 so I am sure we will be fine with no furnace for at least another two weeks. Last year I made it into November. It's a little game I like to play. We just have a bungalow so all it takes is to cook dinner and the house gets a few degrees warmer. It's always a great reason to bake, last night Logan and I did a batch of banana muffins for lunch.
Friends don't let real friends pay full price.

I did splurge on custom blinds because we have a lot of south facing windows and our house is hot in the summer but now it is time for curtains and I am still deciding on my colours, we purchased a new couch and love seat last week, we purchased the floor model, which was half price and then another 40% off the sale price and it is the exact colour and style we wanted so that will be my jumping off point for decorating. It is exciting to be making progress but not exciting to see the bank account dip, we are within our budget so at least there's that!!
Saundyl, good luck on the surgery, it seems like a lot of money and time put out for a needed procedure, I wish there was some sort of assistance for travel for you especially when it isn't an elective surgery.
Thank you TG...it will possibly be covered by one if our insurances.

Mine we will have to pay up front for and then get reimbursed....which from what others at work have said can take upwards of 6 months AND has ti be approved before anything can be booked or its all out of pocket. Bfs...im hoping will just approve it because then they pay and do all the bookings for flights and hotels.

You are dealing with a lot, so

I'm sure that your extended family is feeling VERY thankful for you!

    ---

coupon girl, my sisters who are grandparents are like you - they will look after the grandkids anytime or all the time - any chance they get!

Well, the ham and cabbage rolls are in the oven, about halfway done.
Just will have one more side to make - hoping son can come early and help with that.

I'm pooped! So is my husband, he's been cleaning - what a honey

Good morning! I hope everyone had a nice long weekend. We had a late night Sunday and slept late yesterday but I was the 1st one up and made bacon and eggs for breakfast (extra bacon in the fridge for DS lunch the next few days )
I did 2 large loads of laundry and all of it is hanging to dry in in the dining room (save me going in basement tomorrow night when I put it away.) I put everything on hangers so will make it quick to put away.

Seem to have a busy week at work, appts, sports etc. And then off early Friday morning for a weekend tournament! Will start packing/getting ready tonight so its not rush Thursday night. Will go shopping Thursday for fresh fruit etc. I always make sure we have healthy food for breakfast so we aren't in a rush if we have an early game. And it saves $ (which we all like )

What a weekend.... DH's family was an ordeal for me as always, but nothing out of the ordinary. Thank goodness of the wildest children wasn't there, but LO did get knocked down by a large rambunctious dog. It was wound up by one of DH's nieces who saw that the dog piqued her interest. Poor LO cried and was quite upset that the dog pushed her and she fell in the mud. I was a bit bothered that they all left the scene quickly and ran into the house. DH was given no explanation but heard whispers among his two nieces and I was left outside in the cold with LO to explain that the doggie was very young and got too excited. The girls are in their late teens, and I would have thought one of them would have mentioned something but they went to the basement to busy themselves with their phones.

DH mentioned that dinner was terrible, which is a surprise to me. I'm not partial to their meals, but they never seem to eat anything we bring that earns good reviews at potlucks among friends and my family dinners. Last year, I spent hours on an apple crisp while LO was crying for me. Not one person touched it, claiming they were on a diet, though they devoured everything everyone else made. Even all the kids shun our food. This year, I vowed I will not waste any effort on a family that does not eat anything from our home, or search for the top rated recipes on the internet. DH felt badly that we brought nothing but dinner rolls, but I am not going to spend hours on something that will just come home in it's original form.

Six hours felt like an eternity, especially when LO seemingly picks up all the bad habits, fears (they talk to her about monsters and scary things and her brings them to life at home, or is offered junk food as a meal. Of course they all want to see LO more often, and I always think something that can't be repeated out loud.

Two mad loads of laundry this weekend, ahead of the next two loads of laundry waiting to go. No time to wind down or go to visit the river ducks this weekend.

LO's been invited to a six-year old's party with tattoos, dance class, and nail painting. It seems only a few months ago when LO was being called a "baby" by this girl and being told that she couldn't do anything. With a group of eight other girls that are twice as old, I wouldn't want for her to be left in the corner. Somehow, apart from daycare, LO never seems to be accepted by other children, though she wants to play with them. She's as tall as the five year olds of our friends, but they ditch her quickly when she can't play like them.

Reminds me of the time I was in grade 1 and a year younger than everyone. A group of boys wouldn't let me play soccer because I was a girl, until one of their best players said he didn't care if I was a girl; I was playing because he wanted me to. And then he grabbed the soccer ball and stood next to me and held my hand. I hope LO is in a place to speak up for someone one day and does the right thing.

Turned the furnace on for the first time last night - the house was cold and I also changed over to flannel sheets. Today I have an injection at a hospital out of town - I wish it was local as I hate driving into the city.

Thanksgiving was great - minimal family drama which was nice for a change. No leftover turkey though Will have to pick up a small turkey and make my own leftovers.

    Have a wonderful week everyone!

Turkey update: I unwrapped the turkey and made a quick call to my sister to ask how to cook one. She said to pull out the bits from the cavity and there were still huge ice chunks in there, at least four or five. DH said it was still okay to cook, but I had some doubts. Well, I thought I pulled out everything but when he was carving the turkey afterwards, there was a small paper bag with more. It must have been stuck to the ice. All I felt were bones, but to be fair, I did have rubber gloves on as I was a bit creeped out by the whole thing. In my mother's day, they would have to catch and pluck the chickens with their bare hands and it was a rarity. I think if I lived in those times, I'd be vegetarian!

I went for a shower, thinking DH would remember to take out the turkey as he mentioned that it would be right when LO was put to bed. I always go for a shower for the "pink noise" and fretted a bit before I got in. Afterwards, DH saw me run for the kitchen and he began dashing too. Poor LO was still awake with the sudden commotion. It was 10 minutes overtime, but our convection oven is no longer convection, or it's leaking heat. We should replace it one day.

It tastes okay, but we haven't got around to eating it. It was too late to eat on Saturday, and on Sunday, we went to my family's thanksgiving. Unfortunately, my mom thought I was bringing the turkey, and I thought she was bringing turkey so no one had any turkey! But, we both have 12 pound turkeys in our refrigerators.

    Perhaps we'll have some tonight.

I haven't a clue how you are able to manage with two sets of twins under two. How do you have a second to post!? I really hope things get better for you and your family. You're quite strong and amazing and can manage a lot more than you think.

It's a good thing that I called the PDAP lady again. She claimed to not have the updated furnace quote. I told her that I sent it to her on Thursday around noon, then she found it. She'll get back to me this afternoon or tomorrow. The adjuster still hasn't sent her info on the list clothes, my teaching resources, the playpen, or cleaning out our crawl space. She doesn't know where that first cheque is at either. She'll look into it and contact the adjuster again.
