Today (Jan 18) is the 10th anniversary of my kidney/pancreas transplant.
If it hadn't been for the incredible selfless act of a grieving family, I may not be here today.
When I got my drivers licence at 17, the first thing I did was sign my organ donor card, little knowing that I would be on the other side one day. If you haven't already done so, please sign up to be an organ donor. I like to think of it as the ultimate in recycling - instead of letting organs decay, they can save the life of another. This thread is currently associated with: N/A

Congratulations, this is a wonderful brag
I think everyone should sign their donor card. It is the greatest recycling of allFriends don't let real friends pay full price.

Amazing!
We have our organ and tissue donor stickers on our health cards, but one must do MORE than that because it doesn't go only by that. We must discuss this with our spouse, loved ones, next of kin - so they clearly know our wishes because they are the ones who give the consent.
My husband and I have done that, and since our son is of legal age, we know his wishes too - and he knows ours.

Congrats Andit. thanks for sharing. mine is signed, noted on my health card I think, and wishes discussed with loved ones. Remember giving blood is a gift of life too.

Its so important that ppl sign up to become organ donours - I am!
My uncle received a kidney and a pancreas about 8 years ago - on Christmas Eve! Its sad bc someone lost there life that evening, but also joyous bc 2 little girls now have a healthy father who is there to watch them grow thanks to a donour!

Stories like this make me so happy. My mil received a kidney from her sister a year and a half ago and she is also doing very good. I work on a kidney transplant unit at my hospital and it is truly lifechanging to see someone receive such a selfless gift. Good for you and congrats. May you be blessed with many more years of health

Congratulations.
I somewhat know the feeling. I survived SICU in the summer of 2007. I received blood transfusions. I had previously donated blood and it became my turn to receive blood. My older brother donates blood multiple times a year. I am no longer supposed to donate blood, but I still encourage others to do what they can. Both my husband and I have signed our organ donor cards each time we have needed to update our health card information. I agree that it is an awesome thing to provide hope to others who are waiting for organ donations.Help me out with Swagbucks and we can both earn gift cards and PayPal money
