August 2015 Frugal Chatter thread

Nice cool day today, again, so that's a plus for me.

Morning! Guess I should get rolling. Will hang laundry out to dry. I was smart and put a load on last night. Then make breakfast. Think I will treat them to bacon and eggs. Then pack up for the beach

Yesterday we went shoe shopping. All five of us.

Bought my two pairs of shoes for orthotics (FREE after reimbursement from chiropractors), I have to pay $150 OOP for the devices but saved this money with income tax.

Bought the older girls two pairs each for upcoming school year. Dress pair for church (our church is casual, but the girls were in love with the shoes that sparkle...), indoor pair for the one in school and new runners for the one who isn't. Total was $56 taxes in. $14 a pair for new shoes is a pretty good deal IMO, especially when they are new and name brand. We went to The Shoe Company and now have $10 in rewards and a $10 WUS $40 coupon that can be combined in the next 30 days. Between birthdays and growing kids, I think we will take advantage.

Today looks like:
-Aunt coming down to help and visit. I think we will visit the library.
-Mom taking older girls tonight for a sleepover and I will be going out with LO to a 31 bags party to see old friends.
-DH is working tonight and running an all you can eat taco fundraiser to raise money for outreach for families in need in our community.

Tomorrow:
-DH has community ball hockey. I may go with the baby and watch since I frequently can't attend his church events.
-Pick up the girlies.

I've been thinking a lot about the crochet pattern. I would never walk up to stranger at a restaurant and ask to try a meal that they paid for... Same story, different setting with the pattern... I have a hard time saying no to people... Let us know how it goes!

My DH's niece and husband flew in last night with a 4.5 hr flight delay at 2 a.m. so I am the only one up. The weather is cold , rainy and foggy so it will be more of an indoor and catch up on visiting day. The rest of their trip looks good weather wise so will get to the mountains etc later

Good morning, everyone.

With all the chaos around here, I didn't remember til last night that it was Lily dog's b-day. Sigh. My baby is 12! Thankfully, she was satisfied with chicken broth, followed by a home-cooked meal, then watermelon for dessert (sometimes we share a steak for b-days ). I swear the brats eat better than I do!

I have a decision to make today. A few weeks ago, I heard about a pup that needed a home, so I gave the details to a friend who'd lost her dog. Then I got sick, so never followed up until last night. Apparently, my friend isn't ready for another love (fair enough). I really don't want another adult dog (a puppy is a whole other story, since both brats would be ok with that), but there is something about that dog in need that keeps haunting me. At this point, I have no doubt the dog has a home, but what if? If I contact them & if the dog still needs a home & if they are desperate.... So, my dilemma is what do I do if the answers are yes. I know I would have to agree to take the dog (wrong age, wrong gender, wrong everything - certainly not the addition I'm planning on one of these days), I wouldn't be able to say no. Here's hoping the dog already has a home and the decision is made for me. Sigh. Sometimes I wish I didn't have to be an adult.

I'd better go get myself cleaned up and ready for the day. Neighbour dog already made a beeline for us this morning - not to see Lily dog, but because I reek of chicken heart (forget torture, after spending an hour next to a pot of boiling liver, anyone would confess! ).

I still haven`t got a call from the lady who wanted the pattern. I think her friend caught on that I wasn`t willing to give my patterns away. Avon was right. I checked and it is against copyright law to photocopy a pattern. I bought the privilege to use it. I would have no problem lending a friend my book but a total stranger is another matter.

J&C: good to hear things are progressing with Logan, its good to get early intervention My MIL is bipolar, so we know the increased risk our boys face.
I am sad to see this summer end as the boys don't really need us and the easy mornings have been nice.
My Logan returns from away camp on Saturday and then we are off for our family vacation. It's supposed,to be cool tonight so I may do some baking before we leave and I am trying to pack as much food from home as possible.

yeah just talked to daughter and we are going to see her /her hubby on sunday for lunch -cant wait to see her (her birthday is next week (thurs))-I miss my daughter sometimes

A certain boy is sulking cause he wanted Lily dog's spot in the sun and she wouldn't give in to his demands.

So, it looks like the decision has been made for me. I bit the bullet and left a message for the person needing a home for the dog and...silence. I'm really hoping that it's just too much for them to think about and the dog already has a home. We'll see. I've already been trying to plan for worst case scenarios had I taken in the dog (Quincy cat tries to kill the dog & vice versa, dog barks constantly, dog is pushy, dog is anxious/fearful, dog hates Lily dog & vice versa). When it comes to critters in need (especially dogs), I can't say no. Sigh. And houseguests are no longer temporary once they stay longer than a day.

Lily dog is back to her normal self (95%, like me, we both still get tired faster than before ). This morning, she stood her ground when Quincy cat tried to move her off the sunny spot on the bench (this is her I'm-so-happy-to-see-sun-I-don't-care-if-I'm-hot smile).



Going to be adventurous today & make something other than a plain sandwich (no butter/mustard/mayo/etc) for myself. I'm really getting sick of toast & crackers (I swear food poisoning would be a good way to make someone confess ).

I went to a couple garage sales this morning. Picked up some spiderman action figures for my nephew and some tumblers. I contemplated a metal rolling drawer set for crafts but 40 dollars seemed a tad pricey.

Now I'm enjoying some alone time. BF is back to work for his 2nd day and the boys are still with their mom.

I have been absent but was reading posts!
A friend of mine lost her son last week in a single car rollover so have been feeling really off. I did a lot of baking to drop off for them, but it never seems to be enough. I couldn't imagine losing a child, so very difficult.

^ Oh, that's so very sad.
There have been several accidents in SK over the past week where early 20s people have died in crashes, it's just awful. My son is 23, and I just couldn't contemplate the loss those parents are going through.

Andi - hope you are feeling better soon. I had food poisoning many decades ago, and still remember vividly how horrid it was.

Quite cool here, drizzling off and on.
There are big outdoor events going on in the city, so I feel badly for them all.
It's cruise weekend, so there is Rockin' the River each night - concerts by classic rock bands. Because of where we live, just over the river from it, we can hear the music a bit - but more, hear the pyrotechnics - thought they were gunshots at first, lol. It's good they end each night at 10, and take the party elsewhere.
But wow, what a lineup for each night - Streetheart, Trooper, etc. - all the oldies I used to love dancing to!

Our son loves cruise weekend - classic cars everywhere in the city, they do cruise the strip which we live close to. Tomorrow there's a show and shine downtown.
He still remembers when I used to take him when he was a wee one - we used to have such fun.

My biggest sad is missing Ukrainian Day in the Park - the food, the dancing, etc. I'm just not mobile enough to go, I'm barely hobbling around the house these past few days - something amiss with my left food (instep/ankle?) - but I didn't get injured.
