I did a survey about SDM recently and one of the questions was whether I would like if I could exchange points between the Optimum and PC Points programs. The programs would continue to operate separately but the option to spend points would change.
I heartily replied "YES, please, immediately!!!" because I have trouble finding enough sale items to maximize redemptions at SDM. It would depend on the exchange rate though and I doubt No Frills/RCSS/Loblaws/Fortinos/Zehrs would offer bonus or mega redemption events. If the values remained the same, for example, 38,000 Optimum = $60 = 60,000 PC Points, I can't see I downside.
What do you think?

It all comes down to the "Exchange rate" for the points. I really hope they don't plan on changing the Optimum program to make it more like PC Plus...Now that would be terrible.

I'd rather they be kept separate - because there is no way they can make the two equate.
I shop 10x more at SDM than anywhere that gives PC points.

Would be awesome to use the points at PC stores! I agree though...would depend on how they equate the points on both sides.

I would enjoy being able to stack my grocery purchase points at PC stores and swap them for points to use at SDM for my fancy makeup purchases

Sure would be a nice option, but you just know it will involve points being worth less overall.

Shopping buddy has the same survey. Thanks for the heads up so he can wait and think about it. PC has not been kind to him and hasn't sent him any decent offers. Personally SDM is way better in obtaining points and we can plan some very good strategies on bonus redemption days. I'm older and have been involved in every store deal for over 40 years and when the store makes changes that is the warning signal that its time to cash out and keep a low amount just in case.

Well right now, I see the benefits at PC Plus stores (No Frills, Superstore) as you can price match, buy gift cards with points, earn points while spending points, all things you can't do at Shoppers (except you can earn product bonus points while redeeming). Shoppers you can earn points on "almost" anything and carries different products (although only makeup comes to mind lol).
So if their statement is correct that "points earnings and redemptions would be the same as they would today", then I only see a benefit as you could evaluate which option is best, even with a poor exchange rate.
I can see Loblaws doing this to keep us shopping at Loblaws brand stores, but I find I'm rather skeptical, I think these things often come with a cost.Last edited by maple7; Wed, Sep 2nd, 2015 at 07:38 PM. Reason: oh yes, you can buy groceries too!

Love the idea as long as the points will not be devalued.

Since 1000 pc points is worth $1...wouldn't that make it the perfect opportunity to make optimum points have the same value...i think all this falls into the realm of be careful what you wish for. Some day we could be redeeming 95k in optimum points for $95 worth of stuff at loblaws or sdm.
