All Purpose Rant Away Thread - 3.2.1 GO!

We give so much to charity every year. It's frustrating that, this year my sister, who lives in Victoria, needs some 'after-hip-replacement surgery' help, and that kind of help doesn't seem to exist. She is alone and broke. I don't know....it just doesn't seem fair. She doesn't have a support group, or Church, or anything like that. I can't fly out to help her because I am physically-challenged. She is in a major panic about this, and I don't blame her.

have you considered finding some facebook groups to try and set up some sort of care.. i know there's a pretty active pay in forward group for people in Victoria that has helped out a number of people, i'm sure there's also local community centers that you can call.. i think some have outreach programs (or even checking out the local Victoria "cool aid society" and see if she qualifies-or can point you in the right direction ) i'm not sure the age of your sister but there are a few senior outreach programs out there that may offer help

Ugh my son's GST wasn't deposited today and because he has mental health issues I need to talk on his behalf but Revenue Canada is the one agency we didn't set this up for.

Lecale, Midnightly and Secheltsaver....thank you so much! Much appreciated, believe me....will follow-up on your sage advice. (My sister isn't technically a senior yet; only her hips are. She's 53.)

there has to be something out there that offers help for people getting back on their feet after surgery.. though never needing help like that myself i wouldn't know exactly where to look specifically.. does she need help for getting around? or is it just keeping up with basic household stuff like cleaning and doing laundry

you can also try checking out the local "buy/used" websites to see if anyone is offering some sort of help (or even post an ad though you do worry through that about the person being a complete stranger)

You are lucky! In my field, there is no way to move up the career ladder. US is the only way, but you know, the whole job visa thing means no unless you're on the special NAFTA list of jobs in shortage.

Do you have citizenship there?

After my surgery 2 years ago, the Mormons were very nice in helping me move (2 months later, before I had medical clearance for any lifting or anything).
I know they also are willing to come help clean and such.

I ordered some things from Walmart and of course they all arrived separately each in their own box.

They sent me a body pillow in a massive box with 20 feet of bubble wrap so the pillow didn't get hurt!

yep they sent me one can of cat food all wrapped up and in a box 3 times bigger than the can of friskies.

Has your sister called 811- Healthlink BC (commonly known as the Nurseline)? They might be able to refer her to local services.
