This morning I had no intention of making a pot of beef/tomato/egg noodle/veg soup, but I took a left at Albuquerque I suppose. It came to be because I did not have it in me to throw out something that would make an incredible soup stock. Glad I ran with it now, this just might be dinner tonight!

Made chicken kabobs - marinated chicken breast strips on skewers, then wrapped bacon around, and barbecued them (uh, til the propane ran out, then the last six were done in oven!); seved with marinated veggie salad.

Dinner from days gone by, before frozen was all the rage,
If you remember TV Dinners like this, then you will show your age,
Adjust the bunny ears on your TV & set up your TV tray,
Pull the "on" button "out" in that old time fashioned way,
Hope that the TV doesn't flip at the good part of your show,
For me if I got to watch Bewitched, then that was apropos,
Microwaves & remotes sure have changed how we do things,
As that was when we dialed our phone & waited for the rings,
I never thought TV Dinners would remind me of simpler times,
& that Swanson would be remembered in one of Loocie's rhymes.

Loocie, a TV dinner was SUCH a treat when I was a kid - and yes, I remember something similar to your pic. Mind you, we didn't eat them in the living room, lol!
Even now, if I do get a Swanson dinner, it's SO much better done in the oven than in the nuker.

Supper tonight is homemade chicken soup - with a ton of chicken breast bits off the bones, carrots, and pasta.
If anyone isn't full from that, they can feel free to make a sammie!
------------
For the past few days, I felt like I was channelling walkonby - her stories of making food for the week inspired me - but I can't do that same since we don't have the fridge room (we have a relatively small one).
But I had bought three warehouse packages of chicken breasts (thanks Sobeys, they were 1.99/lb), and spent a LOT of time deboning and cutting up many - and that will take care of a lot of future meals. Today's chicken noodle soup is the bones and bits from four whole breasts. Yesterday's supper was kabobs from them, too. So I also put away to freeze -
- two packs of four boneless, skinless breasts
- one four-pack of whole, bone in
- one big pack of strips for homemade chicken strips
- one bag to use in stir fry, etc.
- one bag of bones, etc. from four whole breasts to use for soup

Looc, my mom never made homemade mac and cheese - I've never had it!
Once in a while we would have KD, but mostly just plain pasta.
There were six of us kids - mom cooked well, but fairly plainly, and kinda repeated the same stuff every few weeks...
e.g. Thursday was porkchops, fried plain, with mashed potatoes, and peas.
Interestingly, as kids left the nest, it seemed she got braver with her cooking, and tried new and different things. I guess just getting a meal for eight on the table was enough!Last edited by Natalka; Mon, Aug 15th, 2011 at 06:39 PM.

Well Loocie ya got me! I came in here drooling after you had indicated
" wait till you see what I am making for dinner" I was soooo pumped!!
Well aside from the lovely poetry ( as always) and the walk down memory lane from the pic of the tv dinner, I have to say BOOO!
I say boo because these days have you tasted one of those things? Talk about going downhill? I purchased some quite a ways back when the kids were younger as I wanted to relive a bit of the yesteryear and show them something "cool" .
They thought they were good, but what do kids know? Put chocolate sprinkles on just about anything and they will eat it, so they are not good judges. I noticed a big difference. They disappointed in portion size, and quality. I do notice they mark them low in price these days and lots of people buy them, so I guess there is a demand for them still.
Oh ya, thanks for posting eh?
next time I wanna see yummy pics!

Last night was a slice of rye bread with sliced tomatoes, mayo and 4-5 cloves of raw garlic diced. My wonderful father that loves to share things with his "favorite" daughter has shared his nasty head/throat/sinus cold
