WINTER STORM WARNING

Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

Total snowfall: 15 to 30 cm with locally higher amounts possible for Gander east to Terra Nova.

Maximum wind gusts: north to northeasterly near 80 km/h, and up to 100 km/h along parts of the Northeast coast early Thursday evening.

Locations: Green Bay- White Bay, Bay of Exploits south to the Connaigre Peninsula, and east to Terra Nova.

Time span: before dawn Thursday through Thursday night.

Remarks: Snow will begin before morning and become heavy, at times, during the day Thursday. Gusty north to northeasterly winds will increase during the day and combine with the falling snow to cause reduced visibilities at times. Conditions are expected to improve by Friday morning.

Its super stormy here now. The wind is just ramping up, will gust to 117km/hr to 8:00pm and then 108-100km/hr through to daylight and then drop down to 70km/hr gust for most of the day tomorrow. Everything is closed! (But not before I zipped to the grocery store first thing this morning to get a few things before they closed) Hopefully we don't lose the power but luckily I have a generator to run a few things if we do. The wood stove is going and I have all the Christmas lights on so its very Christmassy here now!

Super excited to say it has been cold here this week -5 feels like -15, etc. Everything is freezing which will be a perfect base layer for snow and will make for a good winter snowmobiling, etc. Hopefully it stays that way. Last winter was mild, no frost in the ground so not a good winter for ski-dooing, going to the cabin, etc. Today was supposed to be 5-10mm of rain but it is now all snow and we have a Winter Storm Warning in place !!! yay!

Newfoundland to be impacted by wintry storm later this week.

Time span: Wednesday night through Thursday.

Expected precipitation: snow changing to rain over southern and eastern Newfoundland. Mainly snow elsewhere on the island, with potential for significant accumulations over some areas.

Expected winds: strong easterlies shifting to strong westerlies. Coastal gusts may exceed 100 km/h. Poor visibility in blowing snow will occur where strong winds coincide with accumulating snow and below freezing temperatures.

Remarks: A developing storm is forecast to track across Newfoundland on Thursday, but owing to its uncertain track at this time, it is too soon to determine how much of each type of precipitation will occur over any particular area. Nevertheless, the combination of adverse weather elements will likely make the day unfavourable for travel across a large swath of the island.

Conditions will improve over much of Newfoundland for Christmas Eve. Improvement will be delayed, however, for anywhere exposed to onshore westerly flow, where flurries and snow squalls will likely become dominant in the wake of the storm.

Happy Tibb's Eve from Newfoundland! It's super stormy here this morning. Winds are gusting to 130km/hr and 15-25 cm when its all done! yahoo...White Christmas! Its suppose to improve this afternoon..and then the wind ramps up again for tomorrow.
There's no place to go, let it snow, let it snow let it snow!
