We're supposed to start recycling organics (green bin). Took a while, but we (condo) figured out logistics of this. City is pressuring us to do this. City officials messed up the paperwork & while we have a large bin taking up a lot of space, we've not been put on the pick up route cause they mixed us up with out neighbour (maybe the braindead beaurocrats were practising their zombie behaviour for Halloween? 6 months early?). My building is one of the better ones at recycling - roughly 300 people & we only fill 1 large bin a week (smaller building down the street fills 2). But...instead of rewarding those who do their part, the city punishes all building equally. Lot of folks are tempted to say the heck with it & not bother, since we get dinged the same amount as if we filled 3 bins a week.

Oh & we have a special collection for paint, batteries, light bulbs, etc (toxic taxi runs).

We recycle here, but there is no incentive for it. I just like to recycle. Now, the green bin is a bit different, they don't offer it to us, but with a large dog, much of the food waste goes there, and we do have the green compost cone in the back yard.
WE do have a 4 bag garbage limit, but the only time you hit that is at Christmas time, maybe, but the one thing we have only once a year is large garbage, which we have to take to a site, and it's only open for 4-5 hours, not much time for a whole municipality to get there stuff in.

Panama City Beach, Florida... Recycling is nonexistant here... It took me sooooo long to get used to the idea that everything goes in the garbage: paper, cans, plastic, everithing!!! Do you have any idea how fast your garbage fills up when everything goes in it? The actually pick up garbage three times a week, duh...

The building my mum lives in doesn't recycle and it drives me crazy! I use a green bin and our building doesn't have that programme. I've hooked up with a neighbour in a house down the road that will let me put my stuff in theirs.

In our city, there's a curbside recycling program done by a private company - I don't know the monthly cost, though - and the City is currently looking at whether they should have their own or not.
We have sites in area of the city for recycling paper, metal and glass.

We have a 1 bag limit per week, per household, and Garbage tags cost $1.75 each if you have more than one bag, so our town is big on recycling. The problem we have here is we are so far away from Major Recycling Facilities that the town has to truck our recycling to Winnipeg or Thunder Bay. That is a huge cost to our smaller communities here in Northwestern Ontario. I believe that most States do not have recycling. My nephew moved to Tulsa and his wife was quite upset that they didn't recycle there but Michigan did.

Our city just started their recycling program this month. You have to use large clear blue bags (that are recyclable) for plastics, metals and paper. Then every 2 weeks you put it out with the garbage. I *think* we have a 10 bag limit for garbage, and no limit on the recycle bags, and they have to be covered with a net to prevent animals from getting into it. One problem that has arisen though, is that people are going around tearing open bags to get the bottles/cans that are worth money, and leaving a mess.

The city charges us 8.40 a month for their blue bin recycling program, they are dropping off the black bins (for garbage) in the next few months and I am not sure about the green (organic waste) bin because I don't throw out any (my chickens and compost get it) I just have not paid attention.

we have a green and blue bin program here. green bin for compostables and must go in an approved compostable bag. blue bin for recyclables and garbage bag for waste.
green bin and blue bin are picked up every week, while garbage is picked up every other week and we have a 4 bag limit per house. it's a great system. between the two of us we have only 1 - maybe 2 garbage bags on the bi-weekly pickup.

I just came back from Las Vegas. At the hotel nothing was recycled but they wanted you to use as little water as possible. Even at the airports I asked a cleaning lady if there was a recycling bin and she looked at me like I was from Mars.

Last year when DH and I moved to a smaller town just north of the City, we were shocked at how differently it operated. In the city we had pick-up weekly (both garbage and recycling) we now have garbage weekly and recycling bi-weekly (which is pain when you forget, like we have...we now have a months worth of stuff!). But the real shocker for us is that they only take cardboard and tin cans....in the city they take plastic, which I am sooo used to sorting out. Regardless I'm glad they do it

Weekly we have about 3 bins full of recycling, not including compost.. I keep my own bin for gardening. I just moved (same borough, north of the canal where the poor people live) and the recycling bins are almost half empty and they only have one. It's truly sad. With my 3-4 bins a week where I used to live (by the water with the more affluent) we looked like we were the ones throwing stuff away! It was amazing the amount that little community recycled compared to here.

I lived in the states for a year and they can't even spell recycle nvm actually do it.

The cleanest place I've ever been to, it's a tie actually, Sydney Australia... if you throw something away that can be recycled you can bet your azz someone will tell you.. and Zurich Switzerland. *sigh* What beautiful places

Our garbage and recycling both get picked up every other week. Not great in the summer when it`s hot!!! The landfill site is also open Sat. of the same week. We pay $2 a bag for garbage. We also have a composter in the back yard.
