MOSQUITOS are blooming in my garden! I'm getting attacked in the middle of the DAY! We sat out tonight for a while and used a revolving fan and that worked for quite a while to keep them away.

Kind of a crummy forecast for the next 2 weeks. Temperatures are going well below normal.

Hey gals, remember that problem with Impatiens? Well mine were doing fine until this week now I think it may have that disease/blight. They are shriveling up and dying. Never had that before.

This is a pic. (NOT MINE) but this is what mine look like in one of my boxes I guess it's true.

    Patty,

Look under the leaf...if it is covered with a whitish substance, then you have Downy Mildew. When I was in Vancouver, there were lots of impatiens, and I didn't see any signs of the disease. I yanked all mine out a couple of weeks ago. They've always done so well for me but I won't be buying them any time soon.

Thats what I did this year....Coleus (they really are very pretty and offer a huge variety) and Begonias in the front garden which gets very very little sun.

I love impatients...but didn't risk it this year.

I'm with you Sunshyne! I didn't buy any impatiens, but I sure am missing my "Red Hat Garden" where I used to plant red and purple impatiens and they would fill it up beautifully. I tried red geraniums and another purple plant that I forget the name of - and it's so sad - neither did well and it looks so empty!

My dh surprised me this year by suggesting that we buy the goldfish that I have been wanting to buy for our tiny pond. We have 4 - 2 really orange ones - 1 really "goldy" colour and 1 that is like a calico cat (it's hard to pick him/her out with the dark bottom of the pond). My nephew suggested the names "F", "I", "S" and "H" for their names and that has kind of stuck in my mind. "F and H" are the orange ones "F" is the one with the "fan tail", "S" is the spotty one and "I" is the golden one. (in my mind) They still won't come when I feed them but they aren't hiding so much any more. We're going to have to bring them in during the winter because the pond isn't deep enough to over-winter them. In our last house we had a HUGE-ish pond with lots of Koy and they stayed there all winter. I've been checking "Freecycle" and "Kijiji" for someone who wants to get rid of an aquarium because all the bits and pieces cost quite a bit.

Going to have to say, "good-bye" - the train is getting close to the station.
