Covid-19 situation

I was at one of my Loblaws owned stores this week. When I got there, all the buggies had not been disinfected and when I asked management why, they said it is because it is almost winter and they cannot do it, so it is now the customers responsibility. There was nothing provided to disinfect my cart on my own. I didnt even know that they had stopped disinfecting until after I had done my shopping because there was not even sign postings that informed me of this. It was not until I spoke with a manager and gave a piece of my mind about other Covid related issues that I knew this.

Was at Costco yesterday, they had staff outside cleaning carts.

So if Costco can do this, why is Loblaws not doing it? Also to note, there have been at least 3 employees at Loblaws affiliated stores in my general area that have tested positive for Covid.

Is it just me, or is this a no-brainer here on what is probably a key factor in the increase in transmission rates?

Guess we all need to bring sanitization supplies and wear gloves when we go out to do our groceries. Then disinfect everything we purchase when we get home since we have no idea who has touched something and put it back on the shelf before we bought it.

Hopefully the government does something about this.

I hope I'm wrong, but my suspicion is that our governments won't make the kinds of hard decisions necessary to get COVID rates under solid control until the situation gets even worse. I'm not saying they'll do nothing, but rather that they won't do enough in terms of both setting more stringent guidelines and taking the necessary steps to make sure very few people disregard them.

So realistically, rather than hoping the government will step up and make those hard decisions, it's up to each of us to look for ways to more than we have been to limit our risk of exposure. A few ways that come to mind are to wear gloves, to wear a (better) mask, to avoid interacting with people other than those we live with as much as possible, and simply to go into public spaces less often.

I dont know about anywhere else, but i do know that in my area the grocery stores have an employee that sanitizes the grocery carts all the time!! You cannot use a cart that has been outside and not sanitized. You wont be allowed in the store. Same for washing your hands and wearing a mask. You wont be allowed in the store.

We are sitting watching cp24 to see what happens to the Rexdale restaurant owner who is going to open at eleven to indoor dining

They just showed him outside the restaurant with some people not wearing masks and not practicing social distancing at all. I would of thought that he would be obeying all of the covid rules to show that he can be open safely to his customers

It did not take long for the police and the bilaw officers showed up. Will be interesting to find out what the guys fines are

Some people just dont get it. The measures were put in place to protect not just them but other people (loved ones, friends, neighbours, etc). Why doesnt he do take-out or hire someone to do delivery. If the restaurant is so good that he wants to keep it open all the time, then im sure peeps will do take-our or delivery. Where i live, we have a BBQ chicken place (a real hole in the wall) but the best BBQ chicken you ever tasted. The owner does a roaring business doing take-one and delivery only. The hours have changed a bit but it really made no difference. Actually he is doing better than before because he is one of the few that does offer take-out and delivery.

that guy should look into this instead of devying the Covid measures. People have long memories and what he does not could impact his business later. I hope he realizes this.

Well, every province has announced its Covid measures for the coming holidays. Some provinces have banned get togethers and others have limited the amount of people at gatherings.

In Quebec, so far we are allowed a max of 10 people 2 times between Dec 24 to Dec 27. Schools will be closed as of Dec 17 and some will reopen Jan 5th and others Jan 11th. Gatherings for New Years Eve parties are banned. We dont normally celebrate New Years anyway so it doesnt impact us. Others who do celebrate will have to get creative with their plans. I hope this isnt subject to change. We shall see what happens. It is what it is.

So its official now. Premiere Legault announced yesterday that Christmas gatherings are cancelled across Red Zones in Quebec; which means me and the kids since we are all in Red Zones. I was hoping that this wouldnt happen but it did. Hubby and i were to host Christmas this year because we have a larger space and i already started buying everything i would need. We are hoping for a Christmas Miracle that we can spend Christmas together but..... Last night we were all discussing how to manage gift exchanges and everything. We still have 22 days so maybe things will change. Who knows. Right now, nothing is certain and we have to take things day by day. These are extraordinary times and we need to be careful. Everyone has to decide for themselves, but in our case, unless there's a miracle very soon, our family xmas won't be happening this year. For us at least, it won't matter if we're in a red zone or not. It's not like red=dangerous and not red=safe. Even green isn't completely safe, just lower risk.

Well, we got some positive news that
1) Pfizer's vaccine has landed in Canada
2) there are 6 different vaccines that Canada will get
Canada to receive early delivery of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine - Canada.ca

3) the UK did their first mass immunization clinics today. We can watch them and see what to do and what not to do
4) William Shakespeare* got his COVID vaccine today

I had heard that it will take to mid April for vaccine to hit the normal population. I hope that is not true

Dr. Strang (NS) said that he didn't expect it til the summer. First shots would be for front line workers, then seniors in long term care. Whether that's just for NS due to lower population, I'm not sure.

Our Christmas Day plan is our bubble of 4 plus 1 son coming from his apt. ( where he's inside pretty much 24/7 ).
All of this hurts so much, and it's probably petty of me to talk about the " plans we had " and the prep ( food or otherwise ) that's involved when I know about the dire situation of those hospitalized and others that have passed from this virus, and I know how fortunate we have been this far.

I will still hope that you get your Christmas miracle and can be together on Christmas Day SnowFlakey.

Humanity has suffered huge losses from COVID and, I think, that is why we simply have to celebrate Christmas and celebrate the New Year in a fun and positive way. People deserve at least a little happiness and joy in this difficult year. After all, we still have to wait for vaccination, and in general at least survive the winter with minimal losses. You yourself understand that depressive states do not improve well-being. You need to try to enjoy everyday things. Then there is a chance that we will overcome the disease. Under constant stress, the body is more susceptible to disease.
