Numerous reports out there state that taking Omega 3 supplements can help depression.

If you don't have a family doctor you might as well lie down and die because no one cares.

So much for universal health care, eh?
Is he taking any vitamins, supplements? Could try a multi-vitamin, omega 3's.. if he's stuck indoors, try to get him to go outside, go for walks, whatever it takes.

Indeed we all may respond differently to different drugs. However, it is good to know of others experiences.

Yes, we've tried vitamins, St. John's Wort and Tryptophan (which you can get in the U.S.). I try and get him to eat - cook all his favourite foods & snacks but he's been dropping weight like crazy. He's down to 140 pounds and he's over 6 feet tall. He could easily get work as an extra in a movie about the holocaust. His friends come over once in awhile and try to convince him to go out with them but he never stays out for very long.

When he was extremely suicidal I had to get the police to take him to the hospital. They put him on a 72 hour hold but all they did was hold him hostage for a couple of days and then released him without any appointments for follow up and no prescription for an anti-depressant. Just gave him a bus ticket and told him to leave. I'm wondering if either one of us will live long enough to meet a health professional who actually cares. Do they exist?

My doctor referred me to a psychiatrist who I saw for about 2 years. She was decent.
