also. i had my daughter when i was nineteen, and my son when i was twenty five. i have been with their father for nine and a half years. its not like im this little floozy who waywardly goes through life making babies and not raising them properly. it was the tail end of a trip. and she outwardly called my son a disgusting name. absolutely disgusting.
not sure why my parenting skills are being called into question (not by the quoted person in this post) i was quite proud how well i kept it together. and was simply ranting because i think people should mind their own business and show a little understanding, especially toward a child that doesnt know any better.
fortunately the staff were very understanding, one of them even brought him a sucker and he perked right upFeel free to use my shop.ca referral link! Tons of products and great deals! http://www.shop.ca?plcktb=ZwVwXmoC0

I know EXACTLY what you mean and how you felt. My DD is 2 and can get extremely cranky if she doesn't get her way or is very sleepy.Sometimes I have no choice but to tag her along shopping with me. And I swear if I got a dollar for every dirty look and comment I'd probably be loaded. Example- I was at Giant Tiger and my DD and a ball in her hands, the worker there grabbed the ball from my poor DD and said " this is not a daycare". Seriously!!!! People like this make it so hard for us mother's at times like this. I feel your frustration because it didn't end well with the lady at Giant Tiger, as I gave her a piece of my mind. lol

When i see a child screaming in public it always makes me smile. I always give the parents an encouraging grin just to let them know it's okay. My four kids are all grown but I remember those days well, It was so frustrating at the time but now it's a fond memory of being a very young parent who had her hands full. They grow up too fast and the fact is kids scream when they aren't happy. Sometimes my husband does this as well in walmart when I tell him he can't have something!!!!

You are correct, I have no idea what you contend with , all I see is, you are unhappy with the fact that people are treating you like a child and you respond by swearing at them and being rude to prove you aren't a child. I offered the way I handle things because it changed my life when I learned to do that.. you don't have to try it or like it..however its not pretentious.. some people actually do live their life this way.

OP Stated that she hated being treated like a child and that it happens everywhere. My response was 100% based on that , nothing to do with her being a parent or her parenting skills. How the heck was I rude? I shared what I do when I notice that 'everyone around me seems to be giving me a hard time' Initially when a situation develops I can see its something I did or its just the other person having a bad day.. Sometimes though I am out of sorts and it takes me a while to see that ok its more than one person, everyone can't be having a bad day except me. I am probably the problem or part of the problem. If we repeat the same behaviour we get the same results.. if we change how we react or respond, we'll get different results..

That only works if the other people are behaving in a respectful manner as well.
I can't see any scenario that would have an adult call a child r***ed and then just because the mom handled it in a calm collected manner suddenly say " Geez I see you are a calm cool mom and respect your parenting choices and man your kid is bright, yada yada yada".Zoombucks are back: Please consider using my link to sign up again: https://zoombucks.com/?ref=IIHO0L

Way to go OP! Do what ever you have to do to protect your family! I have four kids ages 5 to 11 and have been in many situations like you just experienced. My son who is 9 has been labelled a trouble maker by kids and parents alike because he was always getting physical with other kids at school. We later find out that he is being bullied by kids on the bus and at the school and this was the only way he knew how to defend himself. Thankfully he teachers and the school staff understand him and have helped him tremendously this year.
People with or without kids should never judge what a parent goes through with there kids.Last edited by firstimer1969; Wed, Jun 27th, 2012 at 10:21 AM.
