So what is your budget this holiday season for buying gifts this holiday season ?

This includes all holiday gifts like gifts for yourself , family members both close and distant, friends.

Maybe you also give gifts to co-workers , kid's teacher , your paper boy , your hair dresser, your mechanic , your doctor etc etc .

Plus how much are you planning to spend on parties and entertaining guests in your home or outside , like on drinks , food etc for X'Mas dinners .

Sometimes I find that I spend more money on entertaining guests like on drinks, food etc than on the actual gift giving itself .

My budget will probably be around $150. I only buy presents for my immediate family members though.

    $500 for 4 people and 1 dog.

And then hopefully under $100, in addition to that 500, on little things here and there for friends and neighbours and coworkers and myself and those cute xmas serving plates and decorations that i have a hard time not buying.

People always say that its the thought that counts and commercialisation of Christmas and the materialism and consumerism bothers them , but then they get sucked into the whole thing anyways

Lot of times they feel obligated to buy expensive gifts or feel guilty for not buying them and end up going overboard with it.

I get gifts from people even though I don't really want them ..and just bcoz they are buying something for me , I end up buying something for them.

They feel bad if I refuse the gift and I don't want to look cheap for not buying anything in return for them ..its one of those awkward moments.

Our extended family picks names - we buy for ONE person and have a max limit of $20. Yep, that's it. We all must make a poem to go along with the gift - let me tell you, we all have a ton of fun...get to listen to some hilarious poetry! Makes for an entirely relaxing holiday season - no pressure!

...and any other gifts to any other person is home made - baking, jam, canning etc.

This is such a good idea! I spend way too much on Christmas but hard to break that habit now.

My guess is going to be $500 or less for both DH and my families. This includes the cost of food and little extras. Unfortunately the price is steep but usually I offset the cost with SDM redemption and I don't think I will have enough points to make it to redemption level for everything I had my heart set on

Wish I could shop for myself but can't this year--all I really want is a haircut/colour and a new outfit and a few hrs out with my friend..not too much to ask is it?

More than I wanted to but our list includes a few really big things (a new carseat, bunk beds for the kids, an office chair for my husband etc that we were going to have to buy soon anyway. We're just calling them Christmas presents.

This will be an expensive Christmas for us. I have my shopping done and on budget $250 for two adults and a preschooler. But, we are flying MIL half way across country to come and see us- so that, plus the additional excursions like Niagara Falls (thank you dealfind- two hotel rooms all in for $115 plus dining vouchers) and we are probably looking @ about $1500. (that is my budget, and I am stinking with it! )
ROAK a Huggies or Pampers code to my local pregnancy centre- toys, clothes, food & diapers always needed!

Ack! I don't even want to say how much I'm spending.... cause it's awful.... But to be fair I never buy my kids any toys or treats on any other day of the year and a lot of what they get consists of things like clothes, toothbrushes, and other things that they will actually 'need' for the following year.

If I had my way..we wouldn't do Christmas..neither Mr P nor I are Christians so that takes the religious quantity out of the equation. Even as a child I disliked the whole rush, rush, spend, spend jarring..

I'll probably spend an extra $300 on groceries...saved up already in the local stores Christmas club. I'm not sure what we'll spend on Christmas pressies ATM.
