I only saw my first honeybee in late June among the white clover. However, the bumblebees (2 or 3) have been active since late April/early May.

This spring, there seems to have been a proliferation of items/articles about bee hotels. Fairmont Hotels is expanding their urban beekeeping activity to all of their hotels as the Royal York site has been making a go of it for several years.

I've not been watering the lettuces so they look like they are on strike (including the green lettuce plants I moved from one row to another one) but still alive. It's great that overnight, the air is cooler so there is moisture in the air for them.

The cucumber plants (most of them) have started to grow their yellow flowers. The leaves are showing some insect wear (holes) but is it from a resident critter or are the insects feasting?

I still have what I believe is a stalk and two leaves of a canteloupe plant. I should give that plant a good drink of water and see what happens.

Flowers-Mom's coneflowers have bloomed this week.

My little mini-garden in the raised flower beds in our side yard is starting to produce a few things My tomatoes and peppers are growing nicely. There is lots of basil, oregano and marigolds mixed in there. My red onions are huge on top, but I pulled a couple out for supper the other night and they are still pretty tiny. My carrots, chives and green onions are growing pretty slow since I don't think they are getting enough sunlight in the space I put them... but I'm on the second round of radishes, the first bunch were tasty I wish we had a bigger plot/better area for sunlight!

Does anyone have a recipe for a spray/powder that will keep bugs from eating the leaves of your plants? My broccoli and raspberry plant are both getting shredded!

Yesterday's rains will have to keep the lettuces happy today and tomorrow during the high humidity.
