well haven't I missed some things now?
@avoncallingu I suppose no news IS good news, eliminating what DH does not have is actually pretty comforting I would imagine. Best of luck now going forward.
@22hicks and @Natalka I was laughing when I went to store those jars of beets away, I discovered there were still 5 pints left from 2015! Oh well, guess I'll be serving them every chance I get now! ha ha I was determined to use up what was left from that 10 lb bag so today I added diced beets into the big pot of soup I had on the go. Just enough but not so much that it would turn the entire soup red you know?

oh and ty @thriftygranny for posting this recipe for sweet pickles!

    https://cityboyhens.com/2013/09/23/h...mixed-pickles/

I did up 5 Quart sized jars last night....( it kept my mind occupied instead of fretting over the Jays game...but they won anyways!! )
ohhhh and I love the idea of the extra cauliflower best!

These cooler temps are just so lovely! makes me want to cook. have a great day all!

Eek! I just got a call for my knee-replacement surgery: Oct 25! NOW it seems pretty darn real!
Just 4 months instead of the anticipated 6-9 months....and it's great that there'll be no snow (hopefully!!) for the trek back and forth to physio at the hospital and all done by Christmas!!

Today I took a literal step forward and took Jenny for a short walk to the park. I got about 5 houses away before I felt I couldn't walk anymore with that dang hip problem they're trying to sort out, so I had make a few stops to rest which Jenny was kind enough to provide for me with her little piddles; we made it to the park where I could basically just follow Jenny's meanderings with lots of stops.....but the walk home was awful. Good thing I put dinner into the crockpot, cleaned the bathroom tried (oh, how I try!!) to tidy up my make-up dresser, then had lunch and flopped in front of the computer.
I want to go to the rec-room to sort through my craft stuff on my table there so that I can set up my painting spot. I say I want to, but we'll see if my body wants to...
@walkonby , you put me to shame, you really do, with all your energy, your squirreling away of beets, pickles and heaven only knows what else!! The recipe that @thriftygranny posted is almost identical to mine, but I never thought to add cauliflower to it...now I really want to make them...!! Thank you, TG!!

Hope everyone else is having a productive day, too!!
Although (are you listening, @avoncallingu ??) resting is good, too.

walks, when we were kids, we would fight over the few cauliflower pieces that were in the sweet pickles mom would make! Don't know why she didn't just do jars of cauli!

Lynn - hope you can rest and get yourself more comfortable. Just don't do things that aren't urgent!
Good you have a surgery date; are you on a cancellation list as well?

Yesterday was the first time in a long while I've been alone in the house all day. It was exacerbated by the fact I didn't have a car.

    Hello every1.
I hope you had a good day.

@avoncallingu - what an exhausting day you had !!! I hope you were able to rest today. As walker said, I guess no news is good news. It is a relief that there are no clots, and that it's not pneumonia.

@walkonby - you have so much energy for all that pickling, canning, and cooking. Good for you. If you ever want to move in here and be the resident cook, I sure wouldn't complain.

@Lynn49 - WOW - OCT. 25th !!! That is a surprise. It seemed to come out of nowhere. I didn't think you'd get in till sometime next year. Nice that you don't have too long to wait and worry, but enough time to prepare; closing up the trailer, preparing meals in advance, and most importantly, picking up a ton of patterns and fabric to keep you busy while you're recuperating.
Sorry about your hip though. Nice that you got out for a little walk though. I'm sure Jenny enjoyed it.

@Natalka & @danger_dan - I'm glad you're both feeling better. Dan, you are going to have to look after yourself. You've been sick much too often recently.

@22hicks, it sure did come quickly!! I'm a little nervous about someone attacking that knee again; should have installed a zipper. No need to prep meals ahead, DH is as good a cook as I am and I hope he makes me those oatmeal raisin cookies again for his patient.. I'm not sure I can work the pedal on my sewing machine since it's my right knee, but I plan on picking up wool to knit our Grandson another pair of mittens; it's so hard to find them in stores in real wool unless you pay a bomb for them. I'll have to find out what his snow jacket colour is.. Probably a toque, too, a nice stripey boy one.

@Natalka, thank you, no cancellation list needed...I could have had Oct 11th! but that's too soon after Thanksgiving and I'm a nervous wreck about the surgery already...I'll need time to get accustomed to the idea. It's one thing to break something and need surgery, but elective? Different story for me, even though "it's a mess in there" as my surgeon said!
And NO phone call from my tests yesterday rushing me into emerg, so whew!! Dodged another one!! Still...I hope they figure out why I can't walk for more than 50' or so....

@avoncallingu, so glad we could have a nice chat and a giggle or two; you know I'm here for you day or night and you know how happy I am that your sweet DH's tests were all negative!! Rest, Sweetie....r-e-l-a-x.....ahhhhh...nice, eh?

Then there's @walkonby who puts us all to shame.....some kind of nice friend you are! Hah!! Phhhhttt!! Making us all feel like lazy bums....

    Good night, everyone!!!!!

    Wowy Zowy!Lynn!

That's great! Perfect timing! Summer fading and no slogging around in the snow!

Dh went to get his stitches out of the biopsy spots early this afternoon. I can't believe I slept til noon. I think I overdosed on muscle -relaxants last night before I hit the sack. Can't remember if I took 1 or 2.

Well, Lynn, dh sure doesn't like the smell of this miracle spray😁, but I figure that once he gets his CPAP mask on he can't smell it anyway!

We did hear back from the oncologist. His nurse said -DON'T GO BACK TO THE ER!
Call his office directly through the cancer clinic if CCAC screws up like they have been doing. We waited all afternoon for a call from the nurse. I finally called the dispatch number only to find that it was cancelled for today and we will get a substitute tomorrow. The oncologist is saying that the CT SCAN that is booked for the 6th will give him enough information.

Dh will have a call from a plastic surgeon to remove the skin cancer from his ear and temple. They are both in tricky areas and require a specialist and this woman is precisely that.

So, currently he is fighting cancer in 7, maybe 8 different spots in his body. He wonders why he gets tired. He sure was causing a stink when the Jays lost and Boston did too!

Thanks for all your good thoughts and prayers!

My back was feeling good, even after the long day sitting yesterday but it's acting up to night.

Lynn, I'm so happy you are getting your surgery sooner rather than later.
All this talk about pickles is making my mouth water!
Hicks and Walks, don't cry about the Jays!

    Talk to you all soon!

Got to go and fill in all these new dates in October.

^^ too late avon, I was already sobbing over the double whammy of losing and then Orioles gaining that 1/2 game back and Boston beating Yanks. Grrrr!!

    Good morn!

Happy news for me - my oldest sister and her husband are going to come here next week - we haven't seen them in a very long time, so I'm excited! Of the three sisters, she and I are the closest, even though she's 14 years older.

Have a wonderful day, all! May you all be well!

    Good morning, everyone!!

I had to call our Doctor this morning because I had to cancel the appointment I had made to see him for my ultrasound/doppler results since my surgeon made that my surgery date. Problem being....IF there's a circulatory problem in my hips/leg...will having surgery even be a good idea?!! So, I now have an appt on Oct 5th to discuss the results and my up-coming surgery. Some fun, huh?? I have a feeling alls well, but better to be safe than sorry.

Gorgeous sunny day here, hope it's the same for everyone!

@Natalka, how far away do your sister and her family live? Wow...I have a feeling you're going to be cooking up a storm from now on and well into their visit!

@avoncallingu, lol...I can well imagine your DH reacting to the "scent" of that stuff for pain! You'll have to tell him that I actually quite like it: clears up one's sinuses pretty darn nicely! Good thing for him the scent disappears fairly quickly.
I hope a CCAC nurse actually shows up today and that she knows what she's doing and talking about!! Those agencies can get so full of themselves and complacent when it comes to patient care...as my Mom's advocate I had to be one step ahead of them at all times; it seems to have worked out nicely for both of us when the realized they can't mess around with us!

@walkonby, @22hicks, so sorry about your Jays...but hope still prevails, right? They'll re-group and get their acts together once again!
    Fingers crossed.

Well, off to clean up my crafting space downstairs and make way for my painting; I didn't take the course this Sept because I was hopeful of getting my surgery in before Christmas and yay, it worked! I'll take it again in the spring. Meanwhile I'd better store up some paintings for my teacher..

Have a lovely fall day, everyone!!

Lynn, gee, sure hoping you don't have circulation problems, have you had symptoms?

My sister is in Edmonton, so that's around six hours away. But, gee, she's making it easy on me, no cooking required - she requested that we meet at a restaurant for supper Wednesday; there are two other sisters to see and they may be visiting others, so we go by their request. Big bummer is that Milan has a course right after work that evening, and can't get out of it because his employer pays for them to take it.

Isn't it nice that you don't have to run ragged cooking for company when you should be enjoying their company? Good for you all!! It is too bad for Milan...happens every time, doesn't it? You can have one single thing on a calendar, and a second event will appear on the same day.

As to circulation problems, well my very thorough Doctor is ruling things out for me...when I walk for oh...maybe 10 car lengths, I have to stop because of pain in both my hips. It feels like an ache that becomes a searing pain, so he's ruling out a circulatory problem with my cardiac/iliac ultra-sound last Tuesday, and doppler on my legs. I sure hope that's not it, because....it just wouldn't be good at all. Which is why I'm determined to stay hopeful and filled with positive thoughts! Which wasn't easy this morning when missy Jenny needed to to outside at 6am!! So out we went and she couldn't get to the grass fast enough, then of course coffee was calling to me, and that was it for sleep. Dh's alarm went off at 7am for golf, so another early day for me. yay.
