^ Thanks Harbie & everyone!
p/u at Foodland yesterday a nice size blade beef roast for $6.00 so going to cut up and make beef stew...it's a totally miserable weather day here..cold and wind that takes your breath away, I went out earlier and could barely stand up from the force of the wind! LOL...so perfect day for staying inside...going to start the stew on the electric stove and then let it simmer all afternoon on the woodstove to tenderize the beef...will add onion, parsnip, maybe turnip, carrot, potato, frozen green peas, maybe corn, bay leaf, spices, etc.. and then make dumplings towards the end.

Everything seems to taste better on a wood stove! My parents had one of those double decker ones with the stove and warmers and the hot water thingy on the side. Brings back memories. Man could my mother turn out some fantastic meals on that old stove!

Tonight was the night for the shawarma! I mixed up the marinade yesterday and the chicken breast cubes marinated for about 24 hours. Tonight I threaded it onto wooden skewers that I'd soaked in water awhile so they won't catch fire. I could have chosen a better night for BBQ, it's quite cold here with flurries, but I thought they would do best on the grill.
The marinade had a fair bit of olive oil, so it was flaring up quite a bit, couldn't just leave it on its own and stay inside for a bit, so put on my coat and babysat the skewers.
Verdict? It was good, but I'm not sure if it was shawarma. It was strongly lemony, and not enough garlic flavour (but that might be because I used jarred garlic rather than fresh). Still edible, but DS would not eat it.

...must say, my beef stew turned out really delicious..it made such a nice smell throughout the house all day...will have to take advantage of cooking on the wood stove more often! I would give anything today for a big mac, 6pk nuggets and fries ..lol..but don't have a MCD's in the area...so think I'm going to use honey garlic shake-n-bake on some chicken and bake in the oven...and maybe baked potato as the oven will already be on..and see what else I can come up with!
