Bought myself some dresses, but now think I might look overdressed if I wear them to work.

Found Uncle Ben's tubs - they were pink stickered to boot!
There was about a dozen left and none of them seemed to have any of the coupons!
I shook the tubs around and nada....I am thinking someone took out the coupons, ugh!

I got invited to my niece`s daughter`s shower. Don`t know the girl...saw her once in the last 15 years. The invitation said to bring cash so she can use it to buy Tupperware. Of course we were also supposed to buy some for ourselves so she would benefit from that too. Needless to say...I didn`t attend. My oldest brother alone has over 30 grandchildren. I went to all the showers for his kids...all 9...and told him I was drawing the line at the next generation.

i hate those.. it's a full on cash grab i once had a cousin invite me to her wedding and i found the invite had a similar feel.. i hadn't seen her in well over 10yrs, the wedding was 2 provinces over (no way i'd travel that) and she sent the invite to my parents place under my pre-married name (i had been married for well over 5yrs and haven't lived with my parents for nearly 8 yrs at the time)

Lyssia I would have no problem in declining that invitation and making sure I would put a big fat "NO" on the rsvp (or email...depending on how you are RSVP'ing) and then put "I find it in poor taste when someone tells me what to bring to a shower...no thank you". Ugh, the nerve of some people.

Wedding showers IMHO are cash grabs...my then fiancee now husband and I decided to not do a bridal shower because a)we didn`t really need much in regards of housewares since we had lived together for 7 years already and b)they are complete cash grabs.
You're expecting your guest to bring you a present at your shower AND your wedding? Most people aren't made of money. Like woah...
Having experience in planning a wedding and all I have plenty of shocker stories and opinions LOL best saved for another thread

OMG I get those comments all the time. I get violently sick for a whole day if I eat anything with cocoa or cocoa butter in it. It's like how can you think I would want to eat something that makes me so sick, even if it does taste good? There are plenty of other awesome treats to satisfy my sweet tooth!

I wasn't planning on going anyway(felt like a cash grab from the moment she asked for my email, since I've only met her once for 20 mins), but the invite left a bad taste in my mouth. Plus I don't even like the products she's trying to sell.
ITA agree. Now I have been to a few showers thrown by friend of the bride that were a surprise to the bride(and no mention of gifts) and I have no issue with those. It's the ones that are requesting cash, gift cards, useless items off a register(like 10 80.00 dessert plates) that rub me the wrong way. Plus these are usually the same people that throw engagement parties, stag and does and then expect a cash gift at the wedding as well.

An acquaintance from high school invited me to her wedding, via Facebook. She made sure to include her TWO registries, one for her wedding shower and one for the wedding. Needless to say I had no intention of going.
For our wedding, DH and I specifically wrote on our invitations that we didn't want any gifts or money. If however someone wants to give money we will donate it to the Canadian Cancer Society (Dh's dad passed away from cancer). We already had everything we could want/need. Nowadays everything is so gift grabby, I've had friends of friends (whom I've never met before) invite me to their wedding and baby showers.Trade list:

Yes and no.....some showers are definitely not cash grabs. Speaking for myself, I had a couple of "surprise" showers before I got married and the hosts of the showers definitely did not put anything on the invitations regarding gifts (one was from my co-workers and one was from my MIL - my parents had passed away a looooooong time ago and I have no family). People just showed up with whatever they wanted to bring. However don't get me started on the jack and jill/stag and doe parties where the couple make it a point to say...."this is to help pay for our wedding or our honeymoon". Are you kidding me??? Sorry, hoping not to offend anyone who has had them but this is just my opinion.

I can't actually say that I've been invited to a wedding/shower where the person was asking for cash, expensive gifts or anything like that. It sounds like there are lots of crazy stories out there!
My hometown is a really tiny close knit town and they have a neat tradition where the maid of honor puts out an announcement at the two local stores there that says when/where the shower is and if a person wants to contribute to a gift you can leave $5.00 and sign the card, then the stores purchase and give a gift with those $$. (supporting local business as well) Then people don't really bring gifts to the shower, its just like an afternoon tea with games. Sometimes they bring handmade gifts, which I think are the BEST because I don't have the talent to make those beautiful items. It was neat because I ended up with a couple of cards full of best wishes from people I used to work with, babysit for, go to church with, etc.

My backyard is a dirt/clay dog poop infested swamp. So freaking gross!
2 of my dogs ( the boys of course ) are not listening to me since they have discovered gophers in the pasture.
DH has been home for 4 weeks and is driving me crazy ( time for him to go back overseas )
Arrrrgggg!Just call me Wolfie
