I strongly believe in vaccinations. My family personally does not get the flu shot, but that is the only one. Vaccinations are not just about the individual, but the people they interact with as well.
I am currently pregnant and my antibodies are good for all the vaccines that I have received over the years, my bloodwork shows as much. If I did not have good antibodies I would be putting my unborn child at risk. I am a busy substitute teacher with a 2yr old son. In January I taught at a school when a Grade 12 student was confirmed to have the mumps. There are also reported cases of the measles within my province.Help me out with Swagbucks and we can both earn gift cards and PayPal money

I believe in proven vaccines and the measles vaccine has been proven effective. It is not a new vaccine. I feel like this is truly a first world problem because parents in third world countries will walk for hours (or days) and wait in line for hours to get their children vaccinated from these diseases. While I am pro-choice on anything in that you should always have a choice, my concern is when your choice affects others. I was reading an article about a parent who was urging other parents to vaccinate their children. His child can't be vaccinated as he is in remission from leukemia and cannot be vaccinated. His concern is that if a parent chooses not to vaccinate and his child dies because of that, he is the one who is harmed. This is a tough discussion and there really is no way to compromise on it.
I know many people don't vaccinate because "they cause autism." Well, one quack of a doctor said so, had his results proven to be fabricated and unscientific and now a celebrity mom is saying her child has autism from vaccines. Correlation does not equal causation. Autism has been around for longer than vaccines have, it just didn't have a name. I don't think there are more people with autism, just more people being diagnosed as being on the spectrum. And frankly, while it wouldn't be easy, I'd rather have a healthy autistic child than a dead one.

haven't thought about the flu vaccination in years,
might be because i got used to my mom's idea and had
a little pill at the homeopaths.
and since mom has been gone never bothered
with that or any thing else,
thinking i should though.
don't understand why so many people
don't have their children vaccinationed
for the obvious though

I just think it's crazy that parents don't get their children vaccinated for those diseases for which it is absolutely proven that they are safe and effective for.

It makes me absolutely FURIOUS how Wakefield's sketchy research was pounced upon as gospel truth by public figures and silly, stupid 'celebrities', to the point that children now suffer the consequences of lemming parents who put their faith in such stupidity! And they've put their own families at risk as well as becoming carriers of the disease!!
They should be charged with child neglect as far as I'm concerned!!!!Last edited by Lynn49; Tue, Feb 3rd, 2015 at 01:59 PM.

Roald Dahl’s call for vaccination after his daughter died of measles
In 1962, Roald Dahl lost his seven-year-old daughter, Olivia, to measles. As the number of measles cases across North America slowly grows, the famous author’s painful letter urging fellow parents to vaccinate their kids has resurfaced.

For the mumps, it used to be that you needed one dose. Then it was recommended to get two - so depending upon someone's age, they might fall between the cracks.
Sid apparently had a booster before going to Sochi last year, though.
However, sometimes not enough immunity is built up.

compliatons of measles..
Complications of measles may include:
- Ear infection. One of the most common complications of measles is a bacterial ear infection.
- Bronchitis, laryngitis or croup. Measles may lead to inflammation of your voice box (larynx) or inflammation of the inner walls that line the main air passageways of your lungs (bronchial tubes).
- Pneumonia. Pneumonia is a common complication of measles. People with compromised immune systems can develop an especially dangerous variety of pneumonia that is sometimes fatal.
- Encephalitis. About 1 in 1,000 people with measles develops encephalitis, an inflammation of the brain that may cause vomiting, convulsions, and, rarely, coma or even death. Encephalitis can closely follow measles, or it can occur months later.
- Pregnancy problems. If you're pregnant, you need to take special care to avoid measles because the disease can cause pregnancy loss, preterm labor or low birth weight.
- Low platelet count (thrombocytopenia). Measles may lead to a decrease in platelets — the type of blood cells that are essential for blood clotting.
super bold mine...measles can and does kill....

I did not get any vaccines when I was young except polio, and a few others I can't remember. I had chicken pox and 2 types of measles 4 different times.
My kids are vaccinated for the basics but the chicken pox vaccine sucks my DS was too old(he got the pox at 2) and the vaccine was not out yet and my DD got the vaccine and still got the pox(also at 2) . My pediatrician really didn't have much faith in that vax.
Anyhoo the U.S. gets WAY more vaccines than us. Have you seen their schedule. It's crazy.
As for Guardasil, flu shots, shingles vax, I have passed on those.
Measles is not that big a deal if you are a healthy person to begin with.
