  1. I know it is a bit disheartening as I put a lot of time effort and money into making a nice Christmas for each family

At least you get some relief with new family but it does boggle the mind about the nerve of people, no matter what income level they are at.
  3. Happy new year to you! I think a lot of people are glad to see the last of 2016. Hopefully 2017 will be a better year!

  5. It is not safe to use cornstarch, or flour when canning, or noodles/rice etc. I can't remember why exactly, I just know not to do it. I only can approved recipes just to be safe. I really like all the meat I have canned. Great way to store sale meat without using the freezer. Great for quick meals. dh loves canned potatoes. I did a small amount last year to try but will do lots this year when potatoes go for 1.99 for 10 lb bag. Lots of work up front but handy throughout the year. Happy canning!

Thanks. I have a pressure canner. I canned potatoes and beans with it and spaghetti sauce. I wanted to make Guinness stew and can it. I hear you have to thicken it after you open it so can it with just a broth. Not sure why. Do you happen to know? Thanks a bunch.

I did the same, only swap the tea with a coffee.

Good thinking. And there's nothing wrong with storing some supplies in case of severe weather or what have you, or personal changes of circumstance. Always good to hope for the best and plan for the worst. That's why most folks buy insurance.

Hi Scouponer! I wish you and your family a Merry XMas fill with love and good memories. Take good care and have lots of fun...................................

Way to go! That's my thinking to Target

yes, if NF plan is to drive their customers out of the store with nit picking policy changes they may see their profits spiral downward! I simply despise the stupid 4 limit on PM-ing at both RCSS and NF when I have a really great PC offer.

You are so right about pantry space. I dont have a big stockpile space and i dont have as big stockpile as you seem to have according to your msg, but it feels so good to use these things from our stockpile knowing that we bought them on dirt cheap prices as compared to others who pay full price for these things.
I think i'll go to my sdm and redeem 38k pts for more softsoap. Lol. Thanks for the tip about foaming softsoap. I use softsoap big bottles to use in my lysol refill bottles (to be used in my lysol hands free system.). Who pays $3.99 for a laysol refill bottle when we can buy a big softsoap bottle for free and we can use it in lysol system.
  14. I was looking at trays at bed bath and beyond but $18.99 for 2. I think I am going to do an roger from US amazon for a few things and get shipped to US Box. Things are soooo much cheaper even with crappy exchange and having to pay for gas.

that was the problem I found too when i got my first machine, ( I NEED MORE TRAYS!! ) so as you know I just bought 2 more machines, lol!!

just think of someone who was really short on kitchen storage? It would also look really cool seeing all the colourful jars in the cupboards.
  17. Thanks for advice, I have been watching videos. I will keep plugging away and hope for better success.

I went through much of the same in the beginning. ( days and stuff wasn't dry enough ) Then I began viewing as many You tube videos as I could and I figured out that although blanching does work for many foods, it's not recommended for other foods. So now before I even start I try to get the best tried and true advice from anyone who has done it. When it works it is awesome, everything shrinks to teeny tiny bits! ha ha I am amazed at the shelf space a person could save if they had storage area issues. Good luck!

a suggestion? Not sure if you already blanch yours

btw, you posted on your own wall again..... stop making me laugh!!

  22. Oh brother! Well glad you found the post. Awesome free apples! What do you do with them frozen? I think I will do applesauce cause freezer room is at a premium. But not for a few weeks!

I JUST noticed that you posted your very last message to me on YOUR wall! ha ha I have done that a few times as well.

oh exactly! THIS is why I am so spoiled when I walk and check other regular prices, inflated prices and sales and I think NONE of them are as good as the WM rack! Hey! wanna hear something even funnier? Last week whenever I walked the dogs I would pick a few green apples off the trees in the school yard ( from the tree branches that hang over into the school from someone's house on the other side of the fence ) I actually have my own apple tree that did produce red sweeter apples again, but many were puny, rotted or both this year, just salvaged enough to make a couple of large Apple crisps) Anyway I peeled, cleaned, sliced and vacuum sealed all these green ones this a.m. ( I weighed all my bags for the freezer, it came to 9 lbs total! ALL free! ha ha ) For 2 of the bags I left 8 apples whole, but cored so I can make apple blossoms with them. Lotsa fun! have a wonderful weekend.
  25. That sucks about the Roma's the ones from Metro were beautiful. I didn't see any at my RCSS today...assumed they were in the back. dh also has the 6000/$20 plus 200/$1 on tomatoes so makes super cheap, but if don't know if I feel up to another batch. Well see! Good deal on your fresh pasta!

yes, saw the cases of Roma's too! I was at RCSS today to " consider " buying them....maybe 1 case but I was appalled at the condition of them! This is the store across from Scarb Town Centre, I was there early too, just after 8:00 a.m. and many were wrinkled, older looking and the boxes seemed like they had been " picked over ", many were not even filled so I was not sure I'd be getting a full 25 lbs out of it. So.....I passed on it, but was unaware of the produce offer of the 6,000 pts!! ( That might have swayed me if it wasn't for the condition of them )

I ended up scoring BIG time on my Ziggy fresh pastas though. They were on for $6.48 for the 1 kg size pkgs. I bought 8 of them, earning 4,800 from the in store promo ( 600 points a pkg ) AND then earning another 10,000 from my personal offers on them!! ( 1,000 for every $5.00 spent ) That made them $4.63 each, not bad considering the smaller 350 gr pkgs we normally get are $2.00 ea at NF the odd time ) After I paid the bill and saw my new points total I bought 3 x $10.00 GC's to have ready for my next shop ( those GC's I intend to use at NF, hoping to s-t-r-e-t-c-h out the savings in my next few shops!! ) ha ha
Hey, have a blast on your trip!!
  28. Wow I can't imagine processing that Many boxes of tomatoes. I was exhausted doing one box. 2nd box isn't the front hall tormenting me! Ha ha!. I think 2nd box will be tomato soup and stewed tomatoes will do in two batches. Today I made my mom some freezer jam...peach with a basket of peaches we had that I was afraid we wouldn't eat as our neighbour showed up with 2 free watermelons and 3 free cantaloupes...I had just purchased 2 the same day so now I have 5 cantaloupes and no freezer room. We like to freeze it and make ice cream. Have a good day!

last year at RCSS I paid $6.00 ( even ) ....( I think ??) for the 25 lb boxes of Roma's and they had plenty!! Two different locations I went to simply because I was nearby the second one after dropping DD to work. When I saw they had soooo many there as well I went a bit crazy. ( I had the itch to process! ) I processed so many, I think the final total was 5-6 boxes? It is all a blur now......ha ha DS, and DH thought I was losing my mind when they unloaded the vehicle for me!! This year so far I am determined to process small batches off that incredible WM reduced rack! ( It is all about luck and timing to get any though.....makes it a challenge)
Hope all your hard work provides a good supply of sauce and such for future use!
  30. I was scared at first but it is really easy. just have to pay attention to the gauge while processing which means sitting by the stove constantly monitoring the gauge. it goes up and down like a brides nightgown so have to pay close attention. but honestly I find it way less work than the water bath canning. I did the meat sauce cause I got the ground beef/pork for $1.97 lb and used up canned tomatoes and tomato paste that needed to be used up anyways so pretty cheap. Hopefully we will get cheap produce soon although sometimes I can get canned tomatoes cheaper but I like knowing what is going in mine and they taste better too. Have a great weekend! goodluck with Walmart clearance produce. I hardly ever go to walmart as I hate it...miss target!
