I did eventually call SDM Optimum and enquired about it. I was prepared to return to the store with the gift card because the points were worth far more. They told me that in my case the points would not be clawed back because of the way the cashier completed the transaction. (I did tell them about the frustrating morning I'd had and said that I initially thought the card was given to me as a 'good faith' gesture.) I was lucky this time, but next time around I will be very careful.

Remember if you can to shop the sales - it always helps me save a few pennies!
I go through the flyers and mark everything on sale that i'm interested in. Then i figure out what i,m going to cook using the sale stuff!
You have a great idea for an emergency fund. Try and do it, it may be tough but you never know what will happen and what you will need. Every little helps.
Hope your little one is okay ..and feel free to vent anytime- it'll help you stay sane!
