My recipe for a safe sane pre-Christmas season. Ignore it. Then Christmas is over before you know it! You can do the same thing with really big needles.

Unfortunately, the City of Vancouver has told everyone to leave their Christmas lights up for the Olympics in February. So, Christmas Grinch that I am... I have at least 3 more months of that to put up with. Sigh.

Hi there! Yes my birthday was memorable, thank you for asking. DH and I went to a little neighbourhood Italian place that was just named Canada's best new restaurant. It's called Cibo Trattoria. I indulged in their daily special prix fixe 5 course dinner with matching wines. Thank God they were not large servings! And then it was nice to have a very fresh 2 block walk home. Here's their menu if you're curious:

The five course thingy I had isn't on the regular menu because it's a daily creation but you get the idea. I started with a "Toronto Cocktail" and then my first course was piece of cold pizza and champagne! It was sublime... and the rest is just a blissful blur but I seem to remember a squid dish, ravioli, halibut, and finishing with a vanilla frittata and a cup of strong coffee.

As a fellow Smartcanucker, you'll be happy to know that I got lots of points for this also. We put it on our Shoppers Optimum Mastercard and we made the reservation through opentable.com where they had a special of 10Xpoints for making reservations at this particular restaurant. All in all, a good night. Take care and ciao 4 now.

But on the other hand -
After retiring, I went to the Social Security office to apply for Social Security. The woman behind the counter asked me for my driver's license to verify my age. I looked in my pockets and realized I had left my wallet at home. I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would have to go home and come back later.

The woman said, 'Unbutton your shirt.' So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair.

She said, 'That silverhair on your chest is proof enough for me' and she processed my Social Security application.

When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my experience at the Social Security office. She said, 'You should have dropped your pants. You might have gotten disability, too.'


And that's when the fight started....

I am back.
