@Lynn49 ......hooray for the hornet's nest being removed and getting your camp A/C unit up and running. have a glorious weekend and big birthday hugs to your SIL.
In case you're wondering why I haven't emailed back yet, our power was scheduled to be off this morning, but I thought I'd take a gamble filling my 4 wee mini loaf pans with my special diet styled meatloaf mixture.
( btw, a big TY for getting me to try using Dijon mustard! Turns out it adds a fabulous flavour to this meatloaf! )
Of course the minute the oven beeped that it was preheat ready, the power went out....ha ha .
Poor Frankie....he thought it was night time again. but poor me! I now had to drag ( wheeling it ever so cautiously ) his cage that sits on top of a large tea cart over in front of the big window so he'd get some daylight. The power was scheduled to be out 4 hours....snore, yawn!
That caused issues as the cats now thought it was " feeding time " and that this wee morsel of a bird was on the menu!
They insisted upon perching themselves as close as possible to the cage ( one of them on each side! ) attempting to stare him to death.
It didn't work, he birdie laughed at them both and flitted back and forth between these 2 numbskulls.
Meanwhile I had to make my coffee in the backyard on the BBQ burner in a camping percolator pot. What fun! ( remember most of the deck boards have been ripped up.? ) I mean, yeah I've lost weight BUT I had to try and squeeze by this way too narrow spot to reach the BBQ.
I used the same burner to fry up my single egg as well. Breakfast was good though, a challenge, but good.
Then I had to shop, as I had promised DH I'd grab 2 watermelons for him to take into work, they are surprising a co-worker with a b'day cake
and some fun at break time.
I was nervous to leave Frankie unattended to go shopping, but he seemed to have things under wraps.
Then before long I was back home....and hooray! The power was back on and the Hydro guy assured me our interruption was all over with, they were moving onto another area.
So the meatloaf went immediately in the oven and I started on the red pepper/cauliflower soup, then cut up both watermelons into " man sized chunks ".
No wonder I'm bloody tired now!
Hope everyone enjoys their long weekend!!

It’s Friday!,Canada Day! and a Frankie Feathers update! Could the day get any better??
Thank you @walkonby for that snippet of life. You certainly have a lot of faith in leaving Frankie and his friends alone(btw I believe it’s cats not birds that have nine lives!)
Life is good, actually great when you compare the lives we have in Canada to many others in the world.
(you need not look too far for comparison). The longer I live the more I realize how blessed I am to have lived here my entire life.
Wherever you may find yourself and whatever you’re up to today give thanks my friends! ❤️🇨🇦Always remember the What are you thankful for today? thread as there always is something to be thankful for.

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!! Although i am thankful allyear round that my parents immigrated to Canada many years ago, i am especially thankful on this day. We are a peaceful nation and i hope that Canada will always remain so. Welcome immigrants to this country, they are only seeking a better life for themselves and their families. Do not discriminate; our hopes and dreams are the same.

Good morning everyone!
Update on my eyes: I had my 3 week checkup with the optomitrist and she said there was some improvement but not enough. Soooooo, she wants me to see another specialist to do a complete profile on my eyes. She explained what they would do and to get a better idea how to treat my eyes. This spedialist is quite far away from where we live, so i said i would like to continue this treatment until my next appointment which is July 20th and then if there is no more improvement, i would go to this specialist. And i still have those freaking parasites in my eyelashes even though i am wiping with those special wipes that stink like cracy. such is life.Last edited by SnowFlakey; Sat, Jul 2nd, 2022 at 02:14 PM.

The parasitic situation sounds awful. If it isn't too personal, do you have a scientific name for the diagnosis? I am curious as to why they find eyelashes so enticing.
My food may not befit a king, but I eat like a horse.

With so many elderly people in residences and long term care homes, i thought i would post this poem here.
AN OLD LADY'S POEM
WHAT TO YOU SEE, NURSES, WHAT DO YOU SEE
WHAT ARE YOU THINKING WHEN YOU'RE LOOING AT ME
A CRABBY OLD WOMAN, NOT VERY WISE
UNCERTAIN OR HABIT, WITH FARAWAY EYES
WHO DRIBBLES HER FOOD AND MAKES NO REPLY
WHEN YOU SAY IN A LOUD VOICE, "I DO WISH YOU'D TRY"
WHO SEEMS NOT TO NOTICE THE THINGS THAT YOU DO,
AND FOREVER IS LOSING A STOCKING OR SHOE
WHO,RESISTING OR NOT, LETS YOU DO AS YOU WILL,
WITH BATHING AND FEEDING, THE LONG DAY TO FILL....
IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE THINKING
IS THAT WHAT YOU SEE
THEN OPEN YOUR EYES, NURSE; YOU'RE NOT LOOKING AT ME
I'LL TELL YOU WHO I AM AS I SIT HERE SO STILL,
AS I DO AT YOUR BIDDING, AS I EAT AT YOUR WILL.
I'M A SMALL CHILD OF TEN... WITH A FATHER AND MOTHER, BROTHERS
AND SISTERS, WHO LOVE ONE ANOTHER.
A YOUNG GIRL OF SIXTEEN, WITH WINGS AT HER FEET,
DREAMING THAT SOON NOW A LOVER SHE'LL MEET.
A BRIDE SOON AT TWENTY...MY HEART GIVES A LEAP,
REMEMBERING THE VOWS THAT I PROMISED TO KEEP.
AT TWENTY-FIVE NOW, I HAVE YOUNG OF MY OWN,
WHO NEED ME TO GUIDE AND A SECURE HAPPY HOME
A WOMAN OF THIRTY, MY YOUNG NOW GROWN FAST
BOUND TO EACH OTHER WITH TIES THAT SHOULD LAST.
AT FORTY, MY YOUNG SONS HAVE GROWN AND ARE GONE
BUT MY MAN'S BESIDE ME TO SEE I DON'T MOURN
AT FIFTY ONCE MORE, BABIES PLAY ROUND MY KNEE
AGAIN WE KNOW CHILDREN, MY LOVED ONE AND ME
DARK DAYS ARE UPON ME, MY HUSBAND IS DEAD
LOOK AT THE FUTURE, I SHUDDER WITH DREAD
FOR MY YOUN ARE ALL REARING YOUNG OF THEIR OWN
AND I THINK OF THE YEARS AND THE LOVE THAT I'VE KNOWN
I'M NOW AN OLD WOMAN AND NATURE IS CRUEL;
'TIS JEST TO MAKE OLD AGE LOOK LIKE A FOOD.
THE BODY, IT CRUMBLES, GRACE AND VIGOR DEPART,
THERE IS NOW A STONE WHERE I ONCE HAD A HEART
BUT INSIDE THIS OLD CARCASS A YOUNG GIRL STILL DWELLS
AND NOW AND AGAIN, MY BATTERED HEART SWELLS.
I REMEMBER THE JOYS, I REMEMBER THE PAIN
AND IM LOVING AND LIVING LIFE OVER AGAIN
I THINK OF THE YEARS ....ALL TOO FEW, GONE TOO FAST
AND ACCEPT THE STARK FACT THAT NOTHING CAN LAST
sO OPEN YOUR EYES, PEOPLE. OPEN AND SEE,
NOT A CRABBY OLD WOMAN, LOOK CLOSER ... SEE ME!!!
REMEMBER THIS POEM WHEN YOU MEET AN OLD PERSON WHO YOU MIGHT BRUSH ASIDE WITHOUT
LOOKING AT THE YOUNG SOUL WITHIN.....WE WILL ONE DAY BE THERE, TOO!
